I need to show articles in several different categories, for example accounting software reviews might need to go into both software and accounting sections. There are extensions that can do this in entirely native Joomla – what is the best way with Teline V?

December 14, 2015 at 3:53 am #811790Hi @pugwash94,
I’m not entirely sure about your concern here, any sample site of how you want to achieve?
December 14, 2015 at 11:52 am #812489Currently under development http://obviousreally.com.
Example might be a piece of accounting software that should appear in both "Technology" and "Finance".
Another example would be a website I will be providing for Complexity Science. There I might have an article on "Agent Based Modelling" which should appear in a category of that name but also in categories related to "Biology" and "Banking" . I know this last example may sound weird to those not involved in Complexity Science but it really is the case.Saguaros ModeratorSaguaros

December 15, 2015 at 8:11 am #814303Hi
I got your point but in Joomla each article should belong to only one category only. You will need to use a 3rd party extension to achieve that way.
December 15, 2015 at 11:23 am #814872Yes, I realise I need a third party extension – I have generally used K2 and a suitable extension there. I was just wondering if there was any guidance on what works well with Teline V because I have found the odd conflict with some of the things I have wanted to use.

December 15, 2015 at 4:57 pm #815425We follow the default feature of Joomla so it can’t be assigned to multiple categories. If you use 3rd party extension and have conflict with our template, let us know if we can help something.

December 16, 2015 at 1:05 am #815944Would duplicating the article and adding a bit e.g. -category_name on the end of the article’s alias work?

December 16, 2015 at 6:54 am #816202Yeah, you will have 2 articles with same content but that solution can be helpful in case you only duplicate some articles.
December 17, 2015 at 12:14 am #817901The problem with duplicating articles is the impact it is likely to have on SEO and Google’s view of it.
I am also going to want to display curated collections that have been built up over a series of "editions" of the publication.
Any ideas?Saguaros ModeratorSaguaros

December 17, 2015 at 2:39 am #817944I’m not quite sure of how you want it should be, any sample link?
December 17, 2015 at 7:13 pm #819099I have identified how to solve the "curation" problem. It will be a little complex on the category structure and on the access control on the article submission.
One of the things we will be doing as part the entire exercise is developing a much more extensive meta-data setup to make use of web3 in a much more interesting way than is currently available. We would probably look at using drupal for this because of its integration with fedora commons. However, there is no reason why we cannot use Joomla as a test bed. The ideal candidate for testing is a news site and we have the opportunity to develop a number of news sites and the Teline V template is obviously very good.
Is there anyone at Joomlart I can talk to?Saguaros ModeratorSaguaros
