It’s a common Joomla issue (for me) that I’m unable to resovle, but decided to post here as I’m using Teline IV template.

So is there a way to avoid multiple article hits from one user/IP. Like, when I refresh K2 Item or article page every time it counts a hit. This way I can’t be sure how many people hit the button multiple times and this makes tracking real hits very difficult.

In other words I’d love to know if it is possible that every user hit is counted only once and additional hits/refreshes from a same user/IP won’t count as hits. Sort of like Polls – you can’t vote more than one time (at least not in a specified amount of time, but that kind of thing generally).

Thanks ahead and any clue is really really appreciated.

I am not aware of any such intermediary software that will do what you are looking for.
However, most all analysis components (Google Analytics, etc.) can provide you with the information you need…and a lot more.

    Have a GREAT weekend.

Hi John and thanks a lot for your timely response.

I do follow hourly all my stats with GA and stuff, but what I was saying is that everyone who reads the articles can notice it – that their hits count every time they refresh or read again. And you know there’s issues with advertisers accusing with false Hits counts – and they are right to do it as they can’t be sure an article hits are not bumped intentionally you know. So it was more like a question if something can be touched in the code or if someone knows if Joomla addresses this issue. Like, to repeat – doesn’t make sense to be able to show correct hits in the polls and not in the articles – because every article reading is like a vote after all – you are hitting a link to read it (title) like you read a button to vote.

My problem (like probably many others’) is that I am not experienced enough to fix this myself, though from your words I conclude it’s not a piece of cake.

Thanks again and you too have a REALLY GREAT weekend.

    Obliat,

What you are asking is custom work on the Joomla platform. This isn’t a Joomlart template function, but a Joomla function.
I would suggest you contact http://www.joomlancers.com to find someone who can do this custom work for you.

Again I would caution your wanting to do this as this could have impact to your sites ranking in external services…and you could be cheating yourself. Say I want to read your article. Two weeks later I want to come back on a reference note. You’re only going to get counted once.

    You might try this:

    Good luck!
    John.

Thanks a lot again John, I will carefully consider all your suggestions.

I just hoped someone will enlighten me on the subject – and you did it – I do realize this is specific JA template forum and won’t spam it for no reason.

What I am trying to understand is why Joomla works this way. I do maintain some specific article sections on big non-Joomla websites and no matter how many times I refresh an article on the Frontend of any of these websites hit counter does not change on my refreshes like on my Teline IV based website (does not count multiple refreshes) because it somehow knows I already hit this title and should not be counted again.

    Cheers
    Martin
