I am curious. I have a site that I was working on my localhost.

Now i want to start a new site on localhost. Can someone explain to me what I need to do?

    I’m using WAMP.

Just create a new folder in c:wamp/www (or wherever you have installed wamp)

Then create a new database in phpmyadmin and you are set to go.

    Thank-you good sir! 🙂

    Worked like a charm.

This sounds just what I need, but I’m using XAMPP.

What do I need to do with that to set up multiple sites?

I’m very new to XAMPP and Joomla so I will need some more detailed explanation than the above.

I tried to do this by just creating a second folder under htdocs, but then discovered that they use the same database.

    Please be patient. 🙂

Unfortunately, I use WAMP instead of XAMPP so I cannot help.

Thanks for replying. I appreciate it may not be the same. There is one more point you may be able to help with though.

I have gone into MySql, phpMyAdmin and created a new database. How do I then link my Joomla stuff to that new database?

Or am I way off track?

    Thanks

    Hi merseyman,

Now you have created two databases, you need to note the username, password and database name as these are the details needed for Joomla installation.

What I do is that I create another folder for another site under htdocs. For example, site2. SO the URL is http://localhost/xampp/site2

Just proceed with the above and enter the respective database details and your second site will be up in no time.

I’d like to setup another store on mylocalhost using wamp.My first installation uses magento’s sample data, so I still have to setup a store on my own.In my existing installation, I’ve stored the catalog of sample data under i.e. c:/wamp/www/magento/media.

I see your post about the need to create another folder under c:/wamp/www and to create another database. Now should I create another folder, say megento_2 under c:/wamp/www? Which files would under magento_2 for magento to work?

Shall greatly appreciate if you could explain a bit more or outline the steps as I’m really new to all this.

    Thanks a heap!

    Hi there,

If you wanna install a new magento site in your localhost, you can follow these steps:

    – Create a new folder inside c:/wamp/www I suppose you name it ‘magento2

    – Create a new database for this site

    – If you use our quickstart package with sample data, just copy all files/folders inside this package to ‘magento2‘ folder you’ve created

and you can follow installation process now.
