After installing the JA Teline II, the page comes without anything except the heading. I am struggling to fill it with content and functions and had hoped I could start out with the example page as in the demo. Is this possible?

July 6, 2008 at 2:23 pm #258149Hmmmmm, råder deg til å installere Quick start pakken….
I advice you to install the quick start package, then you get the same look as seen on the demo for this template.
If you need any help with how to install it you have a guide here for Joomla 1.5 version(this guide is for another template, but all steps is the same): http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/quickstart-installation-guide/July 6, 2008 at 7:09 pm #258193Det er det jeg har gjort.
I’ve just done that, and even used the guide above, but at the end I did not get the same look, only an empty page. So I started to figure out how to organise sections and categories, which was’nt as easy as I thought. Additionally I am in a bit of a hurry to have a test version up and running in a few days.
Have I overseen some template or module activation somewhere or should I try to upload the Quick start package once again?

If you are using the Joomla 1.5x, the most common mistake, and you are not the first. I think I did it myself, very long time ago — is the failure to install the sample data. In Joomla 1.0x, it is the default to install the Sample Data. In Joomla 1.5x, you have to manually click on the upload sample data.
As Menalto stated. If you are new to this, it is best to start with the combined Joomla — JA Teline II. Also, it seems that you are not quite familiar with it yet, and may not have the backgound. there are more people having problems with the Joomla 1.5x version. I myself use Joomla 1.0xx for a number of reasons.
I am not sure if it willl take just a few days to initiate a page that is well done.

July 6, 2008 at 8:55 pm #258200OK, I’ll go for a new Quick start, and this time I’ll try the 1.0 version. How to install is basicaly the same, except for the default instalment of the sample data?

It is even simpler than Joomla 1.5x-JA Teline II. Using Joomla 1.0x-JA Teline II the sample data is installed automatically because the box is already checked.
Just make sure that before you start, you have a new database, username and password. Do not attempt to salvage the old database.Since you are able to install one, it seems you know how to do this already. and you know the convention.
I usually unpack the zip file before uploading. Be sure to upload only the QuickStart folder. If you plan to install it in the main directory
/public_html/(main directory)
be sure you remove all Joomla related stuff in the main directory, place them in another folder, if you do not want to delete them. If you place it in the main directory
or I usually place it in a separate directory by renaming the uploaded QuickStart kit.(e.g., joomla)
then, just start the URL, then just follow what is stated in the browser. Take notes. I always do, even if I have already done so many.

July 7, 2008 at 9:50 am #258309Voila! It finally worked. Installed a 1.0 version of Quick Start, and it all appeared as it should. I made a new folder for the test version: http://www.euleksikon.info/Teline2 , so it might be that I’ll come back to the forum with questions on how to launch the page with the proper URL.
Thanks again to Menalto and Cornelio!

Good to know ragnarli.
That is just the beginning. Be sure to read the Tutorial section.
More than likely, many of the questions you would ask have been answered already. One thing that you can do is look at various threads in the forum. Find one marked “Solved” => Click the “Solved” and you will find a listing of those already solved. Check if there are some related to what you want to know.

July 7, 2008 at 10:36 am #258320Hi ragnarli,
I visited your site briefly.
I am afraid you might be changing the names of the Sections in the Magazine menu incorrectly.
You have to do it in sequence. First change the Section name in the Section manager.
When you make any change in the Section manager, this should reflect automatically in the JA News module automatically when you refresh the page — but I do not see the Section names reflected in the JA News module changed.
It is only after you have changed the Section name in the Section manager that you can change the name of the Section in the Magazine menu.
You must ensure that the CID for a Section you changed in the Section menu will have the same CID in the Magazine menu. I wrote a post on this.
If you do not follow the sequence
=> change name in Section manager
=> check the names are reflected in the JA News module => if the name change show in the JA News module (you need to refresh) in the Homepage
=> change section name in the Magazine menu
=> be sure the CID of the Section name in the Section manager would be the same CID of the Section name when you make the change in the Magazine menuThe last one is just as critical. Also, when you are in the Magazine menu, when you change the Section name below it you will see
**************************
Sections: All Sections
(list of names of all Sections here)**************************
The default highlighted there is “All Sections” => You have to make sure to select (highlight) the correct Section name. This will assure you will have problems later. Your articles will not go to the right places. And, if that happens, it would be faster, unfortunately to start all over again.
Cornelio
N.B.
I can see many errors already by not following the above sequence.
Your modified names in the Magazine menu do not reflect that you have done the above.
For example, if I click World in the JA News module, it does not highlight the World section in the Magazine menu => which would be the EU OG NORGE (this one contains the Categories of what formerly was World)
Conversely, when you click what you now call EU OG NORGE, the content is that of the News Section. How do I know this? The articles contained there are those in the “Hot Topic”, and that is a Category in the News section.
In fact, all those you changed in the Magazine menu have been decoupled with the corresponding Section name and Categories associated with the correct Section,

July 8, 2008 at 8:48 am #258522Thanks, this is what I started to suspect. Very ueseful to have this correction before i came too far! For a new user as myself, it is not obvious what is sections, categories and different menu types. But learning the hard way is also learning!

Yes, that is true ragnarli, because there are no step-by-step guidelines for new users. Fortunately, since you are using Joomla 1.0x-JA Teline II. There is a way to reverse the mistake.
I posted a brief outline of the sequence in the previous post. I have posted a more detailed procedure also for the sequence of Changing the Sections and Categories names, and then changing the Magazine menu. Please search under my name or I think it is buried in this very very long thread:
http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/add-module-2/
with a few tutorials.
I have thought of a simpler way of doing it, for Joomla 1.0x-JA Teline II. but I have not posted it yet. I have a very early appointment today though, so I will try to write it later tonight.
@ragnarli 64985 wrote:

What good is read Joomla basic instructions, if you do not even know what to look for? And here, even if you know what to look for, there are no detailed instructions to read.
Because of the lack of support, we are forming a Collaborative Support Group, independent of Joomla or any of the templates companies — because the needs of webdesigners or web developers go beyond what we encounter here.

July 8, 2008 at 9:27 am #258531Hi ragnarli,
My suggestion is that you make your
http://www.euleksikon.info/Teline2/
as your sandbox. Like the innocent child make it a place to explore. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. But so you learn from them, record your observations, including your mistakes.
I was able to detect your mistakes immediately because I too committed them, when I started with JA Teline II, with no one to tell why. I had to learn them by trial and error, and some by serendipity.

July 8, 2008 at 9:37 am #258532That’s a good advice. I am now uploading and making a new ‘Teline3’. And kekping the Teline 2 as a sandbox, I can test things there first!
Did you have any explanation to why I did not manage to access the JA Teline Preferences in the Template manager- in order to change the logo/logo text?. When I click the link (http://www.euleksikon.info/Teline2/administrator/index2.php?option=com_templates#info) I just get the very same page once again.
