I really don’t understand how to use ja flow-list, Can you please give me an example step by step of how you would set it up in Joomla 1.0x.

Please view userguide of labra and go to 2.1.JA Flowlist module(mod_jaflowlist.zip) index . it explains detail how to using jaflowlist .
