June 11, 2008 at 3:25 am #129551I already installed Joomla1.5 on my local machine, so I didn’t find it necessary to install JA Edenite using Quickstart. Instead, I created a separate directory on my web server and inserted the ja_edenite folder there.
When I try to connect to it, however, I get the following error message:
Database Error: Unable to connect to the database:Could not connect to MySQL
How do I fix this? How do I connect a new database to this template?

June 17, 2008 at 4:14 pm #254185OK, I have setup a new database and updated the settings in the configuration.php, as you suggested. However, I am still unable to connect to the database.
I did not install Quickstart since I already had joomla1.5 installed. Is there a way to populate the template’s database tables without using Quickstart?

March 30, 2009 at 7:36 pm #299123Do you have cpanel on your hosting server? may be you are missing some step. Where do you host your sites? whats the error? unable to connect to mysql? this error suggest that your database settings in joomla are not right.

March 31, 2009 at 8:21 am #299217I am doing the same process that i have done for 100’s of installs. The database is on the server. I can connect with PHPMyAdmin. Even when I manually install configuration.php I get the error unable to connect to mysql.
Im hosted with heart internet in the UK. I am doing the same steps as before and having the same problem with multiple quickstart templates, so it is making me think it is a hosting problem. any ideas

Well, not questioning your experience with joomla installation, but as i said earlier unable to connect to database error has to do with database settings,
1. May be changing the host entry to localhost or 127.0.0.1 or host specified by your hosting co might help.
2. Some hosting co auto attach prefix to database name and user name, you can cross check those too.
3. Might have accidentally shuffled the database user name with database name or vice versa.Putting in a support ticket with your hosting co wont do any harm, may be they have changed something on their server and have not notified your of the changes.

Hmmm, that’s interesting, no wonder none of us had any clue about it. DNS generally doesn’t come under such scenario. But now it does.
