JA

I’m not having a rant but please could you revert your forum index page back to what it was.

I’m struggling to understand which sections have new posts in now and I have to trail through each category in order to look for new posts I can help out with.

This is more time consuming that it was before, where you could see at a glance where there were new posts.

does anyone else agree with me?

I could not agree more….this is very pretty…..but so very very very very impractical.

Its like this with all things new, you need to get used to it, some changes will come, or atleast will be tested out.

Well I won’t be getting used to it….

I am not going to waste my time opening every section to see if there is a new post….very poor setup, once again not thinking of the members

just realised there is a “new” in red when there is something new posted in each section but it’s easily missed.

as mcphil said – it just makes the forum look pretty but it takes away the real need of focusing on new responses on threads!

Why not just click ‘new posts’ at the top?

Works for me, I never look at the index … although I just did, thanks to this thread, very pretty but prefer the old

Never noticed there was a index before lol, always use the “new posts” and “whats new”

I agree completely with the thoughts of the original post. And, I missed this ongoing discussion here because of what are now lacking in the new format.

I just saw the layout change later this morning. I went to the Feedback Information Forum, but there was no discussion there yet (by the way, this thread should be there), so I started a thread: as a result:

New Forum Layout seems nicer but lost its effectiveness

http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/could-not-hide-print-icon-email-icon-in-ja-business-template-1-7/

I enumerated the reasons why.

And this duplication of thread is a testament of what was lost or could happen in the new layout.

I am all for change and beautiful layout, but in the end, it must be the effectivity to communicate that must trump everything else.

N.B.

So that my own thread could die a natural death, here are the reasons, I posted there:

@cgc0202 65873 wrote:
Hello,

The new layout is very clean. However, it has lost its effectiveness.

In the old format, you know the following information even before getting in:

1. Is there a new posting?
2. What is it?
3. Will you be interested in it?
4. How many threads and posts now?

Now, you have to check each one to answer the above questions. Whether it was intentional, the fourth issue

How many threads and posts now?

is now not part of the key information that the customers can use.

Agreed the new layout is very good..

But this won’t work, its as if things are just getiing hidden away!!

I stumbled on to this post. There was no “NEW” next to the category name. This change to the forum will make it extremely difficult to moderate. I am another that will not go through each category to see if something is new now that I know it really isn’t working as planned.

Chris:

Because there might be something new but not something I am interested in. And sometimes I view that and might get interested in a topic from the title of the latest updated thread — as shown in the old layout.

I visit only a few Forum sections, but with the ability to view the latest thread updated, sometimes I ended up visiting or even responding to these topics in sites that I rarely visit. This may include template sites that I would never consider visiting.

So, both regular customers and Moderators have difficulties with the new format. The question now:

Is there a way to “marry” the good points of the old — because it is really ugly:) — with the nicer dressed new format?

I just clicked on new posts for today. There were none!!! This will not work either!

Check that! I looked at What’s New and there were none but the New Posts seems to work okay.
