July 11, 2008 at 1:51 pm #130741Why can’t Joomlart follow the most simple things that are quite effective, and done by most systematic software companies.
- First, announcements such as that of new product fixes must be announced prominently
- Second, again, just like most companies, a good practice is to include a list of all the fixes done
*I assume that Joomlart is proud of them, to do so.
*This must be announced in the News and Announcement
*This must be made a sticky in the specific Template Forum*Bug fixes
*Improvements
*And othersBetween the two, the second is most important. Customers must know what was done, rather than acting blindly. How was one to know if the issues that they raised have been addressed in the fix?

July 11, 2008 at 1:57 pm #259239i second that!
It would be nice to know what was originally wrong with the template and what’s been fixed, and maybe what the future plan is for that template (if there is any).

And the fixes must be done more regularly, please?:)

/QUOTE]I third that too. 😉
No way I’m going to overwrite my existing files with the new ‘bug fix’ when I’ve spent the last three weeks hacking php and css files in order to get where I am now. I don’t want to go several step backwards by not knowing what the bugs were and what the fixes are.

<em>@mj1256 65924 wrote:</em><blockquote>
bug fixes should have a sticky at the top of each forum template thread where we can find them</blockquote>This might become too many if there are so many bugs, like in the JA Teline II.:) One effort that I tried to initate was to create a thread each for the Joomla 1.0x-Teline II and Joomla 1.5x-Teline II. The two should not be mixed because they are two different animals the way Joomlart and as well as Joomla created them.
The members and Moderators were supposed to help collaboratively by listing the reported bugs (or changes), provide the link of the threads, and outline a summary of the fix.
I thought that this has not been done, quite properly, and should be followed by other templates forum also. In the Teline group, one Moderator, when I requested him to add his fix to the one I started, countered by responding I should place them in his own links of tutorials — which are not arranged by templates nor by version of Joomla.
None of the Moderators deemed my suggestions to be good, and it was not placed in the sticky either. It is a lot of work, if I keep running around asking people to add to the list, and the members would not know where the list to begin with, if it is not in the sticky.
And, that is the heart of our problem — we do not collaborate enough to help each other, and initiatives as proposed by customers, well mine at least are not considered worth adopting.

Thanks Menalto,
For someone coming from Menalto, that is a very powerful endorsement. I hope Hung and the inner circle of Joomlart listen.

Wow, two Super Moderators in a row. We should test your influence to Joomlart. If they do not listen to Super Moderators, then how would they even listen to us, the regular customers.
I would be so frustrated, if I were in your shoes — a Super Moderator, and not even listened to.

August 22, 2008 at 8:43 am #266659Indeed you are right, separiting threads to report bugs in different joomla version is a great idea since issues might be different depending on the version

August 22, 2008 at 11:19 am #266691Thank you very much for the suggestion,
In fact, This Released Templates forum is created with the purpose. However, it seems the forum is not well display so it can not catch enough attention. It is not good to post every announcements for every update because it may mess everything and the News and Announcements should be spared for Important updates.
I ll figure out a way to keep the Released Forum on the top and when anyone download any template, he can choose to subscribe to the Released thread of that template
The idea is inspired by the way Vbulletin manage 3rd party hacks

September 5, 2008 at 10:23 am #268919I think it is a great idea to have things in the forums, but sometimes we struggle to find the most basic (especially for newcomers) information in forums and may not know the keywords.
Would it hurt to have:
a) readme.txt or release.txt with a list of release numbers and bug fixes like most programs/applications attached in the zip file?
b) provide the same text file list shown on the template’s promotion page, again like on other web sites promoting a product? something along these lines :http://keepass.info/news/n080814_1.12.html
or (ideally):
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.0.1/releasenotes/ (using the drop down sections to separate bug fixes, from improvements and any faqs, etc. as well as providing a link to the specific forum
shouldn’t be much work, considering the developer will have a list of things they are fixing at the time.

September 10, 2008 at 2:16 am #269841I just found out that my version of Teline II is old ( ie version 1.5 when there is a new version 1.6 published on August 5th ) !
Would have been nice if I knew about it ..I think I downloaded the old version on August 4th !
Btw, how does one update a present site to the new Teline II version without going thru the whole installation all over again ?
