We just finished what I’ll describe as an “intense” discussion about this in another thread.
From Hung Dinh’s last response, JA is coming up empty on the news portal concept and has retracted promises to produce it. I’m still hopeful that we’ll see one at some point, but at least now we know what the deal is and won’t be disappointed every time they release something other than the news portal.
In the meantime, I suggest you take a look at Youjoomla’s Newsline template. Not a JA quality design, but still a very good one with loads of potential.

just read the LONG tread you mention.
I am using Teline since it was released, and it was that template that make me buy the club subscription, i am sure that lots of people that uses this template would like an update, and like me lots of people will subscrive the club wen a good “news portal” theme released.
Another small note to this topic. Thanks for the answer in the previous (locked) topic Hung, you are right wen you say promisses are bad because they create expectation but you must be strait (like you was) and give us some answers. I agree its not your fault but in my case im am delaying big changes in my site wayting for a possible template upgrade.
keep up the good work and the good support. (sorry the english)

See, this is the part I don’t understand . . . why are you delaying changes? What is it that you are wanting/needing that is causing you to delay cmaking changes?
What kind of changes are you wanting to make?Waiting for JA to release a template to meet your specifications is like waiting for someone else to take your driver’s license test for you. What is keeping you from making the changes/updates you want?

March 31, 2008 at 6:46 pm #243787currently i have a news site with mtree, joomcoment, and ijoomla newsportal with a Teline template. I am in the process of integrate my forum (migrate from SMF to fireboard or phpbb) and introduce comunity builder.
I am not expecting JA to make a taylor template for me, but i would prefer an update to the template i currently have and not have all the work of transfor one to my needs, im to lazy for that 🙂
i think all members of this kind of communities would gain with a positive aproach wen requesting or participating in this foruns.

March 31, 2008 at 7:16 pm #243792Pretty sure a lot of customers are hoping JoomlArt make great strides forward this year…while I am sure that a new News grid type template will be made available,(in Joomlart time frame) but Teline is now a year old and a little like this post needs laying to rest.
When they do bring the new news portal out you will all ditch Teline 😀

March 31, 2008 at 7:26 pm #243795I think open discussion is always fine just so everyone knows that this template isn’t promised anymore. I requested a community portal also with forum, etc. So with the next template coming very soon we should start the anticipation of something new and interesting arriving. What could it be?

March 31, 2008 at 7:35 pm #243796I like the idea of a site that the chance of simply adding these things if you need them…
so you could choose between a Forum or a shopping cart…
a template with more module positions than you can actually use..so if you want to add some extra banners you can.
And the chance to easily add thinks from other template…like a image scroller for example. In short more user friendly :p
