Greetings! Just inherited a non profit joomla site from the company that set it up and is hosting it. I’m a part time webmaster, actually been teaching multimedia at uni forever…. Been using / teaching Dreamweaverlash, Flash and photoshop, but the only content management system I’ve used is WebCT – Blackboard. I also have my own rack mounted mac (rack and roll) but want to use this learn about this Joomla thingy.
Getting my head around this template concepts, currently my site’s live and running with basic content and custom images using the ja_pariiti template. The site managers want simple changes that I would hand code myself in a jiffy. So thinking like a designer I tried to drag the menu over to the left. 🙂 Then I open the index.php in dreamweaver with no luck. 😉 So I registered here, downloaded a few templates and hope to change the template.. I’ve looked back about ten or so pages of posts and read interesting ones. I’ve looked around and found the general tutorials link in the sticky, and will have a go at them. In the mean time here’s my first question…
Questions: Supposedly I just unzip mbt_freemambo.zip into the template folder, izzat correct? What’s next to place my text and images (convert the original template content) that we are using? The text and pix being external to the template are just delivered into place using the template? I’ve been so spoiled with drag and drop, graphical placement of content with photoshop, flash, I almost forgot about text and how to tell the computer in code to do it’s stuff…

A tutorial on modifying templates would be 1000s of pages long 🙂
There are lots of tutorials over the net about how to edit particular stuff but most of the time it is specific to the template. Anything inparticular that you wanted to change.
