    Hello,

When I make an order on Hawkstore, no order confirmation email is sent neither to the customer nor the admin!

This is what I have done:
    1. Downloaded the Hawkstore quickstart and installed it on my webhost.
    2. Created a new user account as if I were a normal shopper through the frontend registration.
    3. Added some products to the cart and proceeded to checkout.
    4. Checked out and chose “standard payment” as payment.
    5. Confirmed the order has been sent through looking inside the Account Maintenace on the frontend.

But no order confirmation is received! Please help!

    Hi there,

I am both happy and upset at the same time and for the same reason.

I am happy that the credentials to your admin backend which your provided for our staff to assess your system, are wrong as they are, if you don’t mind my honesty, just silly. There are bunches and bunches of robots out there searching the internet nonstop that are set to find Joomla web-sites with exactly the same easy guessing words used for the backend log-in! I urge you, please don’t do it again to avoid your web-site and your server being hacked.

I am also upset because we still need to somehow log-in into your backend and assess it before we will be able to troubleshoot it for you.

So, could you please update your Joomla backend log-in credentials to something harder to guess, preferably both for the username and the password, and provide them to us via the “Access Information provided for JA Staff” tool?

    Regards,

    Alex

    UPDATE:

I just managed to successfully register on your site via its frontend and received an activation email. This suggests that neither your hosting nor your Joomla have any mailing issues and the trouble lies most likely within your VM configuration.

Hopefully we will figure it out for you once you provide JA staff with your backend credentials.

    Hi Alex,

Thank you so much for taking time to reply me and for enlightening me about the risks with the robots. It seems like they really did change the backend password. I have updated the password now and provided the new login details.

I see that you registered on the website and made an order, but I suppose that you also didn’t get any order confirmation email. I hope you are able to find the issue with the new login information to the backend.

    Hi there,

I am glad to hear you’ve hardened your password.

Since your Joomla backend password has been changed without your knowledge and permission, it indicates only one thing: your Joomla system, your entire hosting account and most likely other websites, hosted on the same server with yours have been compromised. Good job it happened while your site is still in early development.

My strong recommendation for this unfortunate scenario would be for you to honestly describe to your host exactly what happened with your Joomla backend password. It would only make sense for all sides involved with your website to assume that worse came to worse, your site has been broken into by a malicious user and needs to be investigated by its webhost.

Most common reason for breaking into vulnerable Joomla websites is for breaker to install remote access tools, mask them as legitimate files and gain control over your server. I hope your webhost will appreciate your honesty when your share with him what happened with your password and why but please do come back to us with his response.

Until then, that is until you hear from your host and come back to us with your update, if it’s fine with you, I would like to mark this thread as “Awaiting More Info”.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Alex

    Hi Alex,

Thanks for taking time to describe all the above. I talked to the webhost (http://www.one.com) and they appreciated that I contacted them. They said that it is not possible for one customer to gain access to another customer’s files/database even if they are on the same server, so what they did is wiped all stored files on my hosting account, dropped my database and reset the password, so everything should be good now.

What I have done is installed the quickstart again (you can find the new details in the first post). Please look into it and see if you can find the issue. Really appreciate your help!!

    Hi there,

Could you please PM me your hosting panel login credentials?

I tried to sent you a message but I only get

“alexsmirnov has chosen not to receive private messages or may not be allowed to receive private messages. Therefore you may not send your message to him/her.” :((

Can you sent me a PM and I will send you the login details to the hosting panel?

…although, I don’t believe this is a problem with my web host, it’s more likely something with the Hawkstore template. You could also try to download the template yourself and set it up on your own server and probably experience the same problem :((

    Hi Thomas,

I’ve successfully received your hosting credentials. Apology for the hiccup with my personal PM settings.

    That’s great to hear Alex,

Any leads so far with the order confirmation issue?

There is no issue with your JA Hawkstore order confirmation emails sending and arrival to the site super administrator per se. In fact, initially it will be PayPal sending you notification upon successful payment arrived to your merchant account, giving you option to either accept or reject it and only if you accept it in your PayPal’s merchant account, you will get such email.

Even though your shopper confirms his purchase during checkout at your front store and pays you via PayPal, his order status in your VM backend panel will still remain “Pending” until you as merchant click “Accept” button in your PayPal merchant account.

Once you did, the order status in VM right away changes from “Pending” to “Confirmed” and now both your customer and yourself receive completed purchase email confirmation, generated at your JA Hawkstore by VirtueMart.

Please run a few test purchases, either via VirtueMart’s PayPal sandbox mode, or live PayPal (obviously setting first a few minuscule test prices to avoid crushing you bank account and not forgetting to refund yourself once your testing if over) and see how it works.

You previously seemed to have set your VM store to the “Standard” payment, which is, being a manual, non-electronic payment of your choice, like by mail, bank transfer or cash at the door, not mapped to any email. Hence there were no notifications in your super administrator inbox.

I hope you’ll find this satisfactory and helpful. Happy JoomlArting.

    Alex

Thank you so much for looking into it Alex, I really appreciate it!

After extensive Googleing, debugging, code reviewing, I actually managed to find the problem… One just has to go into Virtuemart –> Configuration –> Configuration –> Checkout, and then under “Default Order Status to send email to shopper” and “Default Order Status to send email to vendor” add the order status “Pending”, and then an order confirmation email is sent out to the customer and vendor right after the order is placed.

I feel pretty stupid now that I didn’t manage to find it before I asked here, but hopefully this thread will help others that run into the same problem :-[

Smashing job, Thomas! I was just one click away from becoming your hero, – I did have a look at these “Default Order Status” little panels for invoices, shoppers and vendors but failed playing inside of them. Never mind.

I am pleased you managed to work it out. Big thank you for sharing your experience with us, – no doubt it will be a big help to our community in future.

    Regards,

    Alex
