madfish,
Did you use {mosimage}, and ensured that the correct photo was “imported” and linked?

June 8, 2008 at 11:51 am #252546Hi!
I used the quickstart install pack, to have a full copy of the demo release.
I see pics in hotpic module, ja-news module (pics are correctly resized) … but in ja-news-fp (news frontpage) … nothing, no image. If i click on title, i can see full article with each pics (not resized)
to be clear … give me Obama back please π

Now, I have a better understanding of the situation. I thought you already started modifying your page.
As you may very know already, when something goes wrong, it is quite difficult to find the culprit. There could be a number of reasons. This may be a fidelity problem, e.g., a certain file was not uploaded, or corrupted, a permissions problem, or something else.
A more experienced moderator (with scripting background) may be able to give you some leads on what to look for to diagnose this and pinpoint the cause. But, then again, sometimes they cannot diagnose it, unless they are able to get into your system.
If you are as impatient as I am, not wanting to wait for the gods to save your soul (or here just your website) taking the bull by its horn, as the cliche says may be your best bet to eliminate some of the possible and very plausible causes of the problem.
After I have setup the database, username, password and upload the unpacked program, it takes me less than five minutes from the start to end of the installation (the post installation takes longer)
This means you can answer this quite on your own:
Even before you make another fresh install:
1) Did you check the Frontpage module if it was properly filled up?
I was surprised for example that when I unistalled and reinstalled the JA News module, the Section ordering was empty.
Question: Was the problem caused by a corrupted file or incomplete download or upload?
Action:
Begin anew (do not discard what you have already installed, until the cause of the problem is identified)2)Did you use the Joomla 1.5x – JA Teline II QuickStart kit?
Quite a few people here reported problems (of many kinds) with the Joomla 1.5x – JA Teline II QuickStart kitYou might want to check if with a fresh install of the Joomla 1.0x – JA Teline II QuickStart kit. Note, in the past, I have better luck with the downloading the zip version (while I had problem once when I used the other compressed forms.

June 8, 2008 at 4:07 pm #252560Hi Cornelio!
Thanks for reply.
I run on 1.5 version. i tried 1.0 but it is the same.
The problem was there from the first install ! with a lot of little bugs that i have to fix myself.I think it cames from the ja-news-fp module !!
I did everything i could, full install, unisnstall the re-install module. Same problem.
My gd2 library is enabled.
I don’t know where it comes from .. if a moderator could help ?
to wait i put the ja-news-frontpage in second position, then i have the ja-news with pics. it gives a correct effect, but it is not what i whant.the joomla quickstart provided with the template is a 1.5.3 version.
does the ja-news-fp match with this version? i don’t know. Administrator can say.is it a problem from my php.ini … i don’t know i already check it but … i’m blind π

Without the responders like myself knowing what you actually tried. It is difficult to find what went wrong. For example, when you stated,
“i tried 1.0 but it is the same.”
How exactly was this done? Was it a fresh install? When did you download the one you used? What was the compressed version you used? etc. (I always used the ZIP, and I always download a new version when something is going wrong.)
<em>@madfish2008 57798 wrote:</em><blockquote>

</blockquote>I think the above is the heart of the problem, if the downloaded compressed program was complete and without any flaw, performing the QuickStart should not lead to any problem. I tried both Joomla 1.5.3 and Joomla 1.0.15 that goes with the “JA Teline QuickStart”, coming from the downloaded the ZIP (compressed software).
The fact that you have to make fixes from the beginning suggest some trouble, either from the download or the unpacking or the upload. Too many potential sources of errors.
Begin anew.
When confronted with the aforementioned problems, I start fresh. Do a Fresh Install — not an uninstall– reinstall. If the problem is simple, the latter may resolve the issue. The fact that it did not resolve it in your case suggest a more subtle source of the problem.
I have encountered your situation many times, when I was new, and even more lately when I amm using a new template that I have not encountered before.
I stop cold turkey. Not erase them (because later on, once I solved the problem, I go back sometimes to analyze what went wrong).
I suggest strongly that you do a Fresh Install from a newly downloaded compressed ZIP which was the one that worked for me. In spite of the more than hundreds of installations, I always start with the Joomla 1.0.x version first. There are reasons why I am not using the Joomla 1.5.x right now (discussed elsewhere).
I posted a detailed procedure on how I do it myself — different from the one posted by Hung or Menalto.
General Steps for the QuickStart Installations of Joomla – Joomlart Template kits.
http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/general-steps-for-the-quickstart-installations-of-joomla-joomlart-template-kits/It was intended for people like me who do not have much background or no experience at all with scripting and programming.
My own experience when I started
I can empathize with your situation. When I started using JA templates, it took me five days and so many fresh installations before I found the culprit — it was not at all related to the ones suggested by many Moderators who were telling me “what my problem is” (including my attitude as far as they were concerned). I was telling them, NO that is not the cause of the errors. I just felt it was so. As it turned out, my instinct proved correct. The clue came from a different source altogether — when I installed another template that worked, based from the one used in a tutorial.
The culprit? bad .htaccess found in the other template kit that was not working but missing in the other template that worked.
Wow! Finally, it was working. Did many modifications, etc. Got more confident.
Then, Bam!!!
I got a gazillon errors (almost three dozens), when i tried to create new menus.
Came back here in the post again. I told them what errors I made, but I already got a bad reputation for not listening to the “solutions” suggested by some of the most respected Moderators here, at the time. I was essentially a pariah.
Everyone ignored my posts.
One even claimed that he never encountered those problems before — as if I manufactured my own errors, to get attention.
[Funny now that I am also telling you that I have not had the same problems myself. Perhaps because there might be things that occured somewhere in the complex process of download, unpacking, upload and then installation, in your case, especially since you started with the Joomla 1.5.x — it has caused me so many problems in February 2008, when I started using it. I still do not know how to edit the Menu properly.]
So, being the leper that I was made to feel — because I do not cower telling the moderators that their suggestions were off base, when I think so — I had no recourse but tried to find the solution myself.
It was another clueless new member like myself who posted all the errors he got that became the breakthrough. I was relieved because not only were they similar to mine — although it seemed his problem was something else.
When I analyzed the errors, they all pointed to the same directory
administrator => components => com_menus => (more folders)
then when I opened the specific folders indicated in the error messages:
There were incorrectly named files in the folders indicated. And, when I changed one name to a correct one, one error disappeared….until all of them disappeared.
I never had any problems with the original JA Teline QuickStart after that.
I reported my findings here. Everyone ignored it. I reported it in Joomla bugs — the same errors persisted from Joomla 1.0.12 to Joomla 1.0.14, my reports fell into deaf ears.
Why am I sharing all this with you?
Because what might happen is that you have to be doing the ardous and very frustrating trial and error to solve the problem.
I hope there is an easy solution. Did you check the various threads here already if there might be similar reports?
If one of the Moderators here have encountered it, then you are in luck.
The best bet is to document what you did. Provide all information about your system. And, if you could trust people, provide that to one of the Moderators — the ones who have helped me quite a bit in the past were Menalto and MiCCASS.

A good target in light of the symptoms. I take it you did not have this issue with JA News. Everyone will be speculating though, unless you show your website. There could be related issue that might be causing it.<em>@madfish2008 57798 wrote:</em><blockquote>

</blockquote>The uninstall and re-install will work only if the problem was indeed isolated. In the long story I shared about my experience, it turned out it is not the problem of the template (then the original JA Teline) but coming from the Joomla 1.0.12 itself. Uninstall and re-install would not have resolved the problem.

Sorry I cannot be a more help.
Just hang in there. It will get resolve eventually, if you have the patience of Job, and persevere.

June 8, 2008 at 6:41 pm #252576Hi Cornelio … thank you for support, i appreciate.
here is the final solution to this … stup…oups … π
It comes from permissions on images folder …
For my problem … i had to :
Give CHmod 755 permissions on Images root folder (all folders)… and that’s it.
(be sure to enable GD library with php, check it in Admin/help/système ..)
Didn’t see it before because i was running on mozilla firefox, on IE i can see broken images instead of thumbnails π … cool.
ok .. now i can sleep π

I am glad it was resolved madfish2008,
If I am not mistaken, that is indeed the default permissions. I am curious how you figured it out. Also, to help others, you may wish to mark this a Solved. That way, if they encounter the same problem, thy might find this thread.
You did it yourself. So, that is very good.
