My site is not just slow on a phone with 4G but it’s also not responsive. Is there a template setting that I missed?

Responsive is set on Yes and so is the CSS compression.

and it is loaded slowly because the speed load from your hosting to addthis.com is very slow. But it can show responsive on mobile layout

The top image is out of proportion and partially blocked by the mass head. Isnt there a way to show it one block at the time?

If I disable addthis, can I still have the social share buttons?

On your site has both addthis module to showing top and left. I have helped you to disabled one in two module on your site. Please check it on your site again. Let me know if it heps
