September 2, 2010 at 3:25 pm #154009I am wondering if you are going to release an updated version of mod_jatwitter now that twitter has changed their authentication rules?
I was trying to figure out why my the module mod_jatwitter seemed to no longer be working and then twitter sent out the following in their newsletter:
Update 1: New authorization rules for applications
Starting August 31, all applications will be required to use βOAuthβ to access your Twitter account.
What’s OAuth?
* OAuth is a technology that enables applications to access Twitter on your behalf with your approval without asking you directly for your password.
* Desktop and mobile applications may still ask for your password once, but after that request, they are required to use OAuth in order to access your timeline or allow you to tweet. What does this mean for me?
* Applications are no longer allowed to store your password.
* If you change your password, the applications will continue to work.
* Some applications you have been using may require you to reauthorize them or may stop functioning at the time of this change.
* All applications you have authorized will be listed at http://twitter.com/settings/connections.
* You can revoke access to any application at any time from the list.September 2, 2010 at 7:29 pm #354449Same problem here and it is very annoying.
When we can expect an issue ?

September 2, 2010 at 9:12 pm #354453I hope they will get on this very quickly. Recently Joomla changed the way they do authentication for lost password resets where they forced the inclusion of a persons login during the verification process. I informed JoomlArt and they had a fix in a couple days. So, let’s hope the same is true for this twitter issue. They may not have seen this one coming!

September 3, 2010 at 8:08 am #354494I also need this urgently, i use the joomlart twitter feed module on many websites, all of which have stopped showing tweets. Needless to say it’s the last thing I wanted to hear while I was away on holiday in France! π Would appreciate an update as thus far I’ve not yet found any modules which support OAuth – I’m quite suprised that this hasn’t yet been addressed as many of the components I use with twitter integrations have updated to use OAuth some time ago. Am I missing something or is JoomlArt just a bit behind in updating?

September 3, 2010 at 12:44 pm #354522I am new to JoomlArt and just discovered that this thread could be reported as a bug. So, I did. Hopefully this will be seen by the developers now.

September 4, 2010 at 8:44 am #354597Hi guys,
Thank you for the helpful report. The module is now being developed to switch to the OAuth from the Basic Auth. Keep looking forward to get the update in next some days!scarney Friendscarney

In the mean time, you can get it works by clearing twitter username & password then set tweet method as “user timeline” in the module configurations.

Thank you for the reply. I already had Twitter Method selected as User Timeline. I have been trying to display three tweets. I removed my twitter screen name and twitter username and twitter password and upon applying those changes the module decided to go back to Twitter Screen Name of Joomlart. But, I don’t see how this helps me to authenticate at Twitter and get my tweets displaying. Am I missing something basic, besides the Oauth function?

Since we can not authenticate at Twitter with the old auth mode, so I recommented you to use “user timeline”, it is a public method that we dont need to authenticate. Do NOT remove the screen name, plz fill it as your Twitter username and try again.

September 14, 2010 at 3:05 pm #355498Ok. It works if you ONLY put in the Twitter Screen Name and remove all values for Twitter Username and Twitter Password. Thanks.

September 22, 2010 at 2:04 pm #356383Just wondered if this has been resolved yet, as from what I gather the removal of the username/password will mean that if the page exceeds 100 requests then the feed will no longer show. This is not an acceptable solution for some of the larger sites I work with!
