This maybe redundant or has been answered somewhere, but I am curious as to whether we can ever expect updates to any of the older templates on the site. Specifically I am referring to updates for 1.5 templates to 2.5. Originally we were told all older templates would be updated to 1.7, then to wait. Just wondering if eventually now means never.

The reason I bring it up is there are several issues. If we use Joomlart templates for client sites, we cannot always convince them to completely change the look of their site and use a new template from the same company if the support for the original template is gone. Why should they? How do we know it won’t happen on the next version. Trust?

Another issue is we have a licence to use the template. If we are forced to switch to a new 2.5 template we should be credited for the original number of licensed sites, not have to upgrade our account. I personally have several sites and to upgrade the older ones I use up all my licences on already licenced accounts.

If we upgrade the site on our own, and have issues with the template, will we get any support?

I realize that the Joomlart team has had their hands full with the recent changes and Joomla upgrades/rewrites but there were a lot of people who expected updates and never got them. One can see by the number of downloads older templates were popular.

If you no longer support them, should they not be removed from the list of available templates? Or at least create a separate forum for those templates so we know that Joomlart no longer recommends using them. Something.

    Hi Aardcom
Thank you for your question. As @tetrapackage said, you don’t have to think about it too much. In the fact, we did not upgrade all templates but only upgrade hot templates J1.5 to J2.5 . I think that, when your current site works smoothly on J1.5 or J25, you don’t have to upgrade to to new platform version if it is not necessary.

We were told over a year ago JA Opal would be updated & still waiting.

    Hi Toddman,

Right now we do not have any plan to update this template.

Hero, at this point it is too late for this kind of reply. Members have been waiting for upgrades that were promised and never delivered. And as for the response about only hot templates were upgraded…. there are many that had more downloads that were never updated.

I have no issue with using a new template for myself but for others that we convinced to use this template club and who like their current template there is. Keep in mind that many addons and extensions require 2.5 and most developers no longer support 1.5 so we’re forced to make a change at some point. The longer the team waits to do the upgrades, the less likely we will count on them for future templates, since we have no which will continue to be supported in the future.

    It’s a bad business model…. just saying.

And in regards to “there will be a detailed plan to upgrade all template j1.5 to j2.5 or j3.0” I have to say at this point in time I do not believe it. It’s not weeks we’ve been waiting for upgrades, it is years.

Just visit the template showcase and see that more than half the templates are of no use anymore. You only need to go to page 5 to get to templates we can no longer use. Anything beyond that is irrelevant and yet you promote them on the site as available templates.

Please don’t take my comments the wrong way. I am happy with the new products and that Joomlart is becoming more creative with the new version, but you need to be honest with the members. There is no plan or timetable to complete the updates or they would have been posted long ago. All 1.7 versions are updated and most 2.5 are up to 2.56. Now there is some time before the next version comes out, so either use the time now and complete the upgrades from the 1.5 templates and post a schedule for the upgrades or clear them out. And when making that decision remember your membership base of support (cash) comes from the templates released and the ongoing support. Anyone can put out a template, but Joomlart is supposed to be much more than that.

    Hi Guys,

I have modified Her0’s reply above as at this moment we do not have plan to update 1.5 templates to 2.5 or above versions. We are working on T3v3 for Joomla 3.0, with so many joomla versions released one after another..the team is not getting any break from routine / upgrade / maintenance work.

I know there are many users waiting for updates but we dont have any to give at this moment. Once we are sure of how we can going to handle the pending work.. it would be announced.

    Regards

Yes, i said that as i was told so by the team then but the work never started for JA Opal or others. Having learned my lesson and confusion it creates for users I do not confirm or promise delivery unless i see the work in progress.

Ok, if you’re not going to update any time soon can a new template like Opal be made. The current ones are not what I want.

    Thanks.

So everyone is busy working on upgrades to new versions that have not been released yet, while existing templates are left out of existing upgrades. This is wrong in so many ways.

And if the T3 platform was developed to make template building easy they should be able to easily recreate the existing templates, or is this wrong. Leave out all the color options and text mods and addons and give a base level recreated template so we can move on.

There are many popular templates in the 1.5 version category and at the time we were told ALL would be updated, not SOME.

    Regards.

Until I hear otherwise I will assume Joomlart no longer supports the old versions and by the same logic, may not support the new ones going forward.

Joomla 1.5 templates (left out ones) are not T3… the big question is to make them T3 or upgrade them as simple templates. Either way its a huge task.

Its not that we dont want too, but its the resources that are binding our hands. There has not been resting period with 1.6, 1.7, 2.5 and now 3.0 not to mention the numerous sub versions they all had.

In no time we updated all the 1.5 T3 templates to 1.6/1.7/2.5 and we are worried too because once we stop supporting 1.5, we will have to remove those template from the showcase, which will decrease the number of templates we can offer to members.

We do not yet have JAEC demo for 2.5 version, as we are focusing more on JATC, responsive and joomla 3.0 version of T3.

Yes, the decision has been delayed for long but we are not saying NO to such updates yet, as we wish to port atleast the popular templates because many users are using them.

We are looking for window, perhaps we may not upgrade 2.5 to 3.0 but directly to 3.5 …. that should give us time to plan 1.5 to 2.5 / 3.0 updates.

We need break from new versions of joomla, to clear the pending work.

Well since 1.5 is no longer supported by Joomla developers, your decision as to when or if you will convert the templates to 2.5 is sort of irrelevant at this point. The fact that there is no plan at this point is enough. I personally can’t wait for a arbitrary future date since I can’t update the third party extensions we currently use until we switch to 2.5. I’ve been waiting.

And I don’t think anyone is begging for the templates to be converted to the T3 platform, just upgraded to Joomla 2.5. T3 is not essential to us since we didn’t have it when we implemented the template. We only want to be able to continue using it.

Unfortunately, we are forced to change the template and will likely go with a modified version of one of the core Joomla themes so we don’t get stuck again. I am sorry to hear the response from Arvind, as we were assuming our patience would be rewarded soon, but I appreciate the honesty.

    Gracias.

This has been one of the option i have been really thinking about. Let me talk to team to get an estimate. I would not mind hiring new coder if this can be done in less time.
