I had this problem before, got a response and it fixed the issue. Now, it is nabk and the old fix isn’t working…
I just entered a new article that is the featured article on the front page. I inserted an image and now there is no text. Just the image, story title and the read more box. I checked and the show intro text is set to show.
questbg said to remove the br tags and that worked. The article I just put up has the same issue and there aren’t any br tags to remove.
Very frustrating…

Hi museaux,
This issue by the way is not due to the template, it is possibly a problem of the Joomla 1.5.x
You have to read the original article where gaygiorgia and I diagnosed the problem and found the workaround. Hainn was kind enough to include a fix, and that is included in JA Teline II v1.4
I actually installed a version of Joomla 1.5.3-JA Teline II v1.4, then went further to upgrade to Joomla 1.5.4 (the latest Joomla version, as of this writing). It works, but there are still some bugs.
I started analyzing the Hainn fix, here:
http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/fixes-from-the-changelog-of-ja-teline-ii-v1-4/
The relevant analysis is in post #6 and #7, more than likely, your problem is caused by the one discussed in post #7.
Here’s the bottom line, from my own findings:
If your maximum is 400 characters — in the JA News Frontpage — for the text you want to show in each of the above, you must place the “Read more” at well more than 400 characters.
The above statement applies for any Joomla 1.5.x-JA Teline II. I just tried to trigger the error, and it did trigger the error, if I place the “Read more”well below the maximum characters.
I am not sure if you are brave to install the JA Teline II v1.4 (there is risk always that things can go worse, like messing up your website?) but if you do, you will eliminate the need to remove <br />, and some other html markups.
However, whatever form of Joomla 1.5.x you use, the rule I indicated above holds true.
Again, I must emphasize that this is a problem caused by the Joomla 1.5.x not by the template.

Sorry it has taken a few days to post this. I had to go out of town due to a family emergency.The web site is http://www.gaudiloquent.com. THis is the dev site for what is to be globalfoodie.com, once I get this problem worked out.
I guess I am just brain-dead right now, but I tried increasing the max number and I still don’t get any text on the index page. Plus, the four smaller intro on the right side blew up with more text.
What am I doing wrong?

Maybe I did not explain myself well.
Let us say your max is 400
Place the Read more at 500 characters (something above 400), or thereabouts.

July 20, 2008 at 11:30 pm #260990It’s not you, it’s me. 🙂
Maybe I don’t understand what you are asking me to do…
Where exactly are you incresing the max number, ja news, ja front page, etc. and what part? I’ve tried a few things and nothing seems to bring the text below the image and above the read more box.
Thanks for your patience with my problem.

If I am not mistaken, you encounter this only in the headline news article in the Front Page module. I did not encounter this in the Section or Category Intro Pages
Don’t change the max characters. Keep it as you want, 250, 300, 400, etc. — whatever is best for your site layout.
What you change is where you insert the “Read more” relative to the max articles you want to appear.
Let me try to show this schematically:
This is my article text.… dah… dah… dah….
text….. text… text => 100 characters total at Point A
text….. text… text => 100 more characters or a total of 200 characters at Point B
text….. text… text => 100 more characters or a total] of 300 characters at Point C
text….. text… text => 100 more characters or a total] of 400 characters at Point D
text….. text… text => 100 more characters or a total of 500 characters at Point E
etc.
Clear so far?
Now, if you decide to have a max limit of 300 characters for the featured headline news in the FrontPage portion, if you insert the “Read more” after Point D or Point E, you should not experience the problem you stated in the original post.
To repeat, selected max characters in Front Page (feature article) = 300:
**************************
This is my article text.… dah… dah… dah….text….. text… text => 100 characters total at Point A
text….. text… text => 100 more characters or a total of 200 characters at Point B
text….. text… text => 100 more characters or a total] of 300 characters at Point C
text….. text… text => 100 more characters or a total] of 400 characters at Point D
[<= Insert “Read more” here, it will work.]text….. text… text => 100 more characters or a total of 500 characters at Point E
[<= Insert “Read more” here, it will work.]etc.
**************************It may work well after Point C, but try first. Just experiment where you can insert the “Read more” until the text shows. Or, remove the “Read more” insert — do you know how to do that — to see the effect?
I hope this is more clear.
