The version that is now for download, for 1.0.x and the j1.5.6 dated 08-05-08, do they now have all of the updates and bug fixes, or do I have to search through all the posting and get the updates and changes myself?

From my own point of view, Teline II has essentially been a “beta” version up to late July 2008, since it was introduced in April 2008. Part of the problem is the inability of Joomlart to address many Joomla 1.5.x issues. That was why I never used it, except to play with it. In the interim, I preferred the Joomla 1.0.x-Teline II, which unfortunately has its own set of bugs that can be fatal. For example, the entire JA News module “disappearing” or shall I say “invisible” even if the whole JA News infrastructure seems to be intact.

The major bugs of the Joomla 1.5.x-Teline II were resolved thanks mainly to the collaborative efforts of members, and staff like Hainn and Menalto, and those staff behind the scene whose fixes were then included in the latest updates.

By Teline II v1.4, I feel reassured enough to slowly move to Joomla1.5.x-Teline II. Further upgrades have been done since then to address other issues up to the latest Teline II v1.6.

Is it perfect now, as you asked? NO. And, it depends on what features you use, and how you use them. However, they are no longer fatal, or bugs that destroys the layout. The exception is Internet Explorer related bugs, but that is mainly the making of Microsoft, who again have been criticized for their IE8 for introducing more “incompatible” scripts in an attempt to derail the popularity of Firefox and other browsers that adhere to international standards.

The Changelog and the “Template Patch (Fix) Update”

Unlike when I first proposed the concept:

Need for Joomlart Template Fix (Patch) Update without resort to uninstall/reinstall

    http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/need-for-joomlart-template-fix-patch-update-without-resort-to-uninstallreinstall/

Hainn has been more receptive to the proposal:

Kindly please provide List (names) of fixed files in latest Teline iI
    http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/kindly-please-provide-list-names-of-fixed-files-in-latest-teline-ii/

that led to changes in the changelog to include

    1. the affected files
    2. the drectory where a fixed file is located

The additional information in the changelog is a big step, even if it has not yet reach the stage I proposed:

regular provision of “Template Patch (Fix) Update”

In the meantime, if Joomlart provides more information, as requested in the follow thread:

Need more information in Teline II Changelog

    http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/need-more-information-in-teline-ii-changelog/

    especially the following:

    1. the Forum thread URL where the issue was discussed
    2. the actual script fixed

then in theory, each member can systematically create their own “Template Patch (Fix) Update”. It is not the best approach of doing this because the process will lead to “x number of members” creating the same patches over and over, that can be done more properly and with less likely errors by a single Joomlart staff.

If you consider what you consider “challenged” members doing the same thing to create their own “Template Patch (Fix) Update” — more than likely all sorts of errors will take place that lead to a gazillion postings of “please help me” and the ensuing “Joomlart is not responding fast enough”.

Unfortunately, Joomlart have not considered the aforementioned complications and the amount of time and manpower, plus the bad blood they will create. Instead, the focus has been the added work it will entail Joomlar to create a common “Template Patch (Fix) Update”.

Jugding from the overwhelming endorsement of the initiatives by the members themselves, I can only guess where this is going. Instead, we focus on and clamor for “perfecting” the whistles and bells of Teline II.

OK, so, it does not contain all of the fixes, but it is better

I agree, Microsoft is trying to derail firefox and opera also

many of the issues relate to joomla 1.5.x bugs (not the templates), which in my opinion, is still not ready for prime time. I find 1.0.15 to be stable and better to use, and yes, i’m aware of the security issues.

    MJ,

If you lend your support to the Telline II Patch (Fix) Update crusade, it will make it easier and less error prone to upgrade any Joomlart Template (it does not have to be limited to Teline II), from hereon.

Moreover, if you commit any error during such updates , since the patch involves update of less done a dozen files (some of the earlier updates, e.g., SEO issues, are superseded by recent updates), it is possible to systematically find the problem, if the information I outlined above and the related links are provided.

To a certain extent, Teline II has caught up with issues related to the Joomla 1.5.x and Joomla updates. I think in a year of so, the Joomla 1.5.x will mature, as the Joomla 1.0x has been. Thus, there would be less updates, except perhaps security issues. Thus, “fatal errors” or “layout busting errors” will be less common in the future, unless Joomla introduces more updates that radically changes the scripts and thus also those of the template.

If you look at some of the recent updates in the Teline II changelog for Joomla 1.5.x, they are more “features” related, like the highslide, Hot Topic, You Tube, etc. If you do not use these features, the corresponding updates may not needed. Also, some of them are not exactly bugs but customization issues. For example, if you want to randomize the Hot Topic articles, or any other section for that matter, it can be done.

However, these features-related updates are not fatal or will not mess up the site layout, as it had been with the issue of the “Read more” and html markups.

I was a proponent of the Joomla 1.0x-Teline II quite awhile back, when all the problems of Joomla 1.5.x-Teline II was quite unresolved. Part of it was that I did not have any problem with the CBv1.1 with Joomla 1.0x, and most of the extensions I use worked only with Joomla 1.0.x

Maybe it is just me, but in three circumstances, I had the JA News disappear on me. I do not want to keep on running for help to Joomla to resolve the issue, every time it happens.

Considering that the future is Joomla 1.5.x, I decided to shift completely to the latter. The great concern that I have now is that any Joomla 1.5.x is very slow. If this is not addressed through optimization, they will cause many visitors to forego any Joomla 1.5.x.

    Cornelio
