Now that Joomla 1.6 is out it seems there is some confusion over the future of various CCK. With Joomla’s nested categories and ACL this takes away some of the importance of CCKs.

Having said that we will still need additional fields, tags, and various other things CCKs can offer.

I am trying to choose a CCK to go with, and a big part of that for me is which one’s the templates support. At this stage I can see Joomlart support K2 and FlexiContent and am wondering looking forward how long this will last (i.e. for new templates).

Specifically, it seems that FlexiContent would be in a position to take more advantage of the core structure of J1.6 than K2 in the future (it builds on Joomla content as opposed to having completely seperate tables) though it is less popular than K2. Is Joomlart is commiting to build support for FlexiContent in future templates?

Hi chinatrumpet,

we are on a wait and watch for the 3rd party CCK support in our templates. As you can see on the k2 blog, there seems to be a delay in releasing their J 1.6. Since, we have been supporting K2 for over 15 templates, we would like to stick with it for now especially for the templates converted to J 1.6. We dont want our users who are using K2 in J 1.5 to miss K2 in the J 1.6 counterparts.

We support flexicontent in the Teline IV and based on feedback (as yours) we would slowly take it up for other templates too.

Let the air and confusion over the J 1.6 be over and we would be able to confirm the details.

Thanks for the feedback on this. It is a perplexing question to say the least, but I guess for now a roll of the dice is necessary.

If you are able to make a clear direction anytime in the future on this, please let us all know as I am sure I am not the only one watching this eagerly.

Hi,

We would need more community voice on this decision. We tried different in JA social and used Agora Forum instead of Kunena (popular) forum. Not many of our members were happy, as on today they ask for Kunena forum support. and the bad luch Agora went commercial.

So, once bitten twice shy… We have supported flexi content in Teline IV along with K2 and the feedback is neutral (no news good news)… certainly we can do more styles for it rather than just supporting it. Few more voices and inputs like yours and it will help us shape the idea…

Hey Arvind,

ok here is a user voice 🙂 Currently we are rebuilding our news site on the basis of Joomla 1.5 and Flexicontent (in my opninion the best CCK to go as it uses the Joomla articles). I am glad that you are supporting Flexi with your Teline IV template but we would really like to see more templates coming up from your company that support Flexi. At this time not much people realize the power of a real CCK.

So thanks for your great work so far! Keep it up!

Hello, I am a flexicontent user also and I’ve got a conflict between My JA_Community plus template and the front end submission of Flexicontent.
Have you already identified this problem ? Is there any “patch” or valid code modification ?
