Hi,
We had the site password protected for few weeks till we can put some valid content on, when I removed the protection, I seem to have over 22 of online guests. Even two month ago we had the same issue at any day we seem to have lots of guests, I am not complaining, however the question is how could I find out if these are fake or search engine bots or any other.
I will look into the AWSTATS for today’s once its been generated and see, but would appreciate any help or advice.
Thanks in advance

November 8, 2009 at 1:17 pm #322928I use Google Analytics. It provides a lot of information about visitors.
In addtiotion, you don’t need to install a separate component on your site, all data are stored and available online.November 8, 2009 at 1:29 pm #322931I do use Google Analytics and it is very good, but my main worry is to find if we are under any hack attacks as we have been hacked twice before and looking at our site visits seems odd as we havent been promoting the site.
November 9, 2009 at 1:10 pm #323028I’ve installed the Joomla watch component which will give me clear online visits from the admin section. On the main site, it display We have 172 guests online but when checking on the stats made by joomla watch as well as AWSTATS there are not that many users, at most we have 2 visitors plus one robot crawling the site!!
Can any one shed a light to why that is?

November 9, 2009 at 2:02 pm #323030Look at the Joomla’s forum – the module does NOT provide accurate counting of visitors. There are a lot of complaints about it. It’s better to use specialized extensions / Google analytics etc.
