    Hi there,

I have really enjoyed this template but it does take a bit long to load up. Recently I’ve switched hosting companies and I am running this site off of a shared server (not dedicted or virtural dedicated).

At first I thought the delay was only caused by the hosting company because when I go to the website a blank page would appear while the browser said “waiting for…”

I tested out a plain html file though and the server does respond much quicker. Is it possible that Joomla’s php scripts (or JA Erica’s php scripts) would slow down the server response to the point where the browser only shows “waiting for http://www…..” for 10-20 seconds? Or is this likely the hosting company?

If you could let me know what your thoughts are that would be very helpful

    Thanks,

    NM

It may be the template or images or your server. You can try turning on the Joomla cache & if your server supports it I would also enable GZIP compression in the global configuration.
There are also a few very good 3rd party cache components over at Joomla.org.
    Good luck.

There is good information you can get from here: http://www.joomlaperformance.com/

Thanks, enabling the cache helped (I don’t know why I had it turned off in the first place). I’ll check out the performance link when I have a moment. It looks to be quite useful,

The cache is turned off by default on a new install, and so is GZIP compression. Did you enable GZIP too?

I’ve enable gzip compression. It does seem faster. I’ll keep an eye on it and see what else I can to to optimize the speed.

Will it do any harm enabling the gzip if your server does not support it?

I doubt it. But most modern hosts have it installed anyway.

this should be a sticky somewhere under site performance

<blockquote>The cache is turned off by default on a new install</blockquote>

On a new site turn on the cache and enable gzip

I’ll make a quick tutorial on doing this today.:)

When you have enabled it you can check your site here if it is working or not:
