One of the features we offer is to provide links to articles or news that we do not publish on our site. Generally, we post these right within our current system article links and our current system knows if there is a link, to go there and not search our system for the article. We open these in new windows.
I am not able to find anything like this yet, I am sure there must be something. Even if we must publish these links in a separate category would be fine.
Any advice?

Where do you wish to place the external links? into the menu system or into the articles? It is possible to add external links into menu system by selecting external link while creating a new menu item.
For the articles, inserting external link is easy, you can even use JCE editor for the same, in case you dont find the current / default editor suitable.

March 22, 2010 at 8:03 am #337185What I am looking for is when we only have a link, that when they click on the article headline, it opens a new window with the link. So we would only be inputting the headline and a link.

March 22, 2010 at 8:08 am #337187Dear dutton,
Call me dumb, but i am not sure if i understand your requirements well. The articles heading and linking is controlled by Joomla!, not sure how to override or find options to insert external links to it. As i said above, the external link can be given only in the menu Items or within the article text. By default the category titles, sections title, article title, or read more links are controlled and redirected appropriately by Joomla! .
Sorry for not of much help and besides, i may seem to be confused, whether i am talking about the same thing you are looking for.
Regards
Arvind
March 22, 2010 at 2:10 pm #337240I understand your confusion and I understand what you are saying.
I have seen in some other CMS systems that there is a URL field when adding articles. They provide an option allowing the actual article to become just a link to an outside source.
I may have to use a link extension or something to make this work.

hi dutton,
i would suggest you to take a look at Content Construction section of Joomla Extensions Directory. There are components out there that can help you create a custom tailored layout, such as this one you’re describing.
Some of these components have a bit tougher learning curve, but it’s worth every minute since the possibilities of extending Joomla with them are endless. You might want to try your luck with them 🙂

Thanks
April 23, 2010 at 6:42 am #341304From my understanding, the OP is looking for a plugin that would allow you creat links to external articles while the titles are on your website. Like when we creat a menu, it just direct you to other website pages with target=”_blank”, or a list of articles under a section linking to other webistes, am I right?
Since adding external links is very easy when we write an article, so I think this is what OP meanet.
April 30, 2010 at 2:01 pm #342185I think this is a plugin u can use for your goal. Its not totally free, but it isn’t expensive. There are free plugins out there, u just need to look.
