February 7, 2010 at 3:40 pm #331886Can you explain a bit more clearly what you want?
<blockquote>I am stuck trying to get a blank page.</blockquote>
A menu-item has to point to some content.
Do you want to let menu-item “in the magazine” point to a blank page?James Weston FriendJames Weston

February 7, 2010 at 5:33 pm #331897I see the problem with the blank spot on the right. If you look at Teline III’s structure – http://www.joomlart.com/templates_club/club_portfolio/ja_teline_iii.html – you can see this structure too. It appears you are dropping your flip book either into the Content-Top or Content -Bot positions. I have experimented with turning everything off before on the frontpage and leaving only User 6 or on of the other User positions filled. When I do this it fills out the page from left to right like you want. See if this works. The only other position that appears to extend from left to right encompassing the whole page is the breadcrumbs position. Hope it works!

February 7, 2010 at 5:46 pm #331898ok I will try that. When you say on turn everything off on teh front page won’t that disable all my other module positions on all the pages?

February 7, 2010 at 5:57 pm #331901Well you can point your modules to all your pages or you can specify specific pages. So, as an experiment, you can point your modules to all the pages but not the home page by selecting them this way.

February 8, 2010 at 1:01 pm #332043That does not seem to have worked. I have created an article called latest edition but it does not matter what i do the page only goes halfway across. I feel there must be a simple way to create a blank page somehow. Any ideas??

February 8, 2010 at 1:36 pm #332049Try setting the article so it will display in User 1 module. In the Module Manager, create a new Custom HTML box and call it Article 1. Set this to User 1 and then point your article to this module. This should work.

February 8, 2010 at 1:47 pm #332052Hi ok i have done the first part and this looks promising as I can now see a nice big space with the title article 1. Sorry to sound dumb but how do i point my article to this module? I can’t see a area that allows me to point to it?

February 8, 2010 at 2:14 pm #332057I’m sorry. I should have been clearer. You need to use a module like JA News Frontpage. If you create this module and point it to User 1, you can then go to Front Page Manager and list as many articles as you want. Or, you can only highlight 1. Is this what you are looking for? Or, do you just want one article in the middle of the page and the ability to switch it out every now and then? Can you send your URL.

February 8, 2010 at 2:34 pm #332059Hi I really appreciate your patience. Ok I publish a hard copy magazine every two months and I have a electronic version as well you can see it at http://www.vivaasiamagazine.com
I want to have that appearing in my new joomla site i am building http://www.vivaasiamagazine.com/joomla/index.php?option=com_content&view=section&layout=blog&id=5&Itemid=385
However, maybe you are on to something if I can create a new JA News Front Page manager and then i can display the archived editions as well; as long as can have them opening up in a full page view and not cramped over to one side like it is now. Appreciate your guidance.

February 8, 2010 at 2:48 pm #332069Nice work. I don’t see why you can’t locate the actual magazine flip-module at the top in an HTML module. I believe these are just open boxes that allow you to fill them with anything. Try creating on and filling text in it and images and then position it in the User 1 module. Try this to see if you can at least get something to run across as you’d like under the Breadcrumbs. If this works, then you can try to get the magazine in there. If not, the archived approach you mentioned sounds like a good idea. Do you know how to position the new HTML module in the User 1 position? You do this in the Details box – look at the drop-down menu.

February 8, 2010 at 3:50 pm #332077Thanks for all your help. I have sort of got there in the end. It does not look 100% perfect as I ahve a few extra lines on the page but at least it is performing the function I wanted in a way 🙂 http://www.vivaasiamagazine.com/joomla/index.php?option=com_content&view=section&layout=blog&id=5&Itemid=385
I suppose I will need to work out how to get rid of teh extra lines and also how to change the Your are here heading from HOME to something else when I click on http://www.vivaasiamagazine.com/joomla/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=196:current-edition&catid=58:latest-edition&Itemid=385
Cheers.

February 8, 2010 at 3:56 pm #332079Yes. It looks great this way. Remember, User 1 through User 5 are module spots at the top and they mirror the User 6-10 spots on the bottom. You can experiment positioning everything in User 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 to see if this makes a difference. Regarding the “You are Here: In the Magazine,” this is the breadcrumb. You can disable this in the Module Manager if you don’t want to see it there.

February 8, 2010 at 5:48 pm #332089Thanks for all your guidance this evening. The people in the forums have been very helpful and as a beginner with no experience I can’t believe how quickly it is all coming together. Now I just have to teach myself SOBI2 🙂
