    Hi,

Can you please help me with an issue that I have with the loading up the pages. I was trying to write up few articles to filout the site with some content, but when I tried viewing them it gave page not found!

You can have a look at the link to give you a better idea.

    http://www.hostapreneur.com/about-us/privacy-policy

It might seem like it is a database issue but I tried having a look an everything seem to be in order. In the Joomla admin I edit, save and view everything too.

    Please advice!

    Many thanks

Looks like you have enabled Joomlas built in sef urls and they are not working?
or have not renamed the htaccess.txt to .htaccess, that usually does that kinda thing

You are right Shannon. It seems like is the SEF module that I installed a while back, because I disabled it and now my entire admin and site are gone! (CORRECTION! THe admin page cameback online after refreshing :P)… The htaccass is alright. So it seems like it is the SEF component. I used the ACESEF comp.

    How can I fix this??

    Many thanks

    Hi Tarek

I can get the home page ok because it has no additional path etc
If you have disabled the acesef rather than removed the component and any associated plugins, I’d uninstall acesef etc to be safe, after doing that I’d go to the joomla global configuration and turn on the joomla sef /mod_rewrite and test then turn on the joomla sef urls and test. the changes may be needed after acesef is removed to reset the url names.

    Hope this makes sense?

    Hi Shannon,

Ok, already uninstalled acesef. When I have only “Search Engine Friendly URLs” on the additional paths work, but when “Use Apache mod_rewrite” is on the page is lost.

Obviously it has something to do with .htaccess, which is somehting I’m not very familiar with. Don’t know if you could do this (just like index.php) but I looked it up in notepad and there was nothing there.

FYI, I did cleared all browsers caches and temp files.

    Please advise. Thanks!

When you have mod_rewrite off, do the pages appear using the standard joomla looking urls or ‘plain’english’ looking ?

you can view .htaccess file in notepad and there should be stuff there, easiest way unless you have really added extra stuff to the .htaccess file yourself
and need to keep that stuff.

Is to replace it with the htaccess.txt from the quickstart package, that is . . . on you hdd expand the quickstart package and grab the htaccess.txt file and ftp the htaccess.txt file to root dir, delete the old .htaccess file, then rename the htaccess.txt again then go and turn on mod rewrite and the other two options with it. should work fine then

Hope this gets it happening for you

Shannon you’re a godsend… everything is working at the moment. Just wondering if you can advice on a good app that do what the acesef did but more safely.

    Thanks!

Glad to hear I could assist you. Many sef extensions are out there, artiosef is a popular one, most are commercial, that is you buy them but generally get excellent support. I just use the built in sef for the moment, myself.

Some have the ability to scan and fill in the meta details for your articles which sounds great and time saving, but I’m alway kinda cautious with that feature rich stuff, find you have to learn how it works and read a lot of manuals.

We have a SEO thread here at the forum, maybe looking at the posts there will give you some clues? If I’ve been a big help click the thanks and best answer, helps the credits and bragging rights 😉

    Blessings Shannon
