March 7, 2012 at 4:14 pm #174720JA Travel and many of your other websites are great-looking themes, but in general they are slow as well. With my broadband connection it takes 12-13 seconds to load the home page of the demo install. This is on Firefox and I have ySlow and Firebug installed. They report:
1561.9 K
13.544sThat is the demo install no changes. If I look into the performance, components details in addition to the doc, CSS and images I see:
js: 795.4K
font: 334.9KI can’t imagine that all this stuff is required to run the website. How do I source and disable the individual javascript-mostly stuff that can be done away with? Can you provide some pointers?
The goal is to get page weight down to around 500-600K and page load speed to 4 seconds or less.
I run with a very average internet connection speed of 1.5 MBps intentionally so that it is easier to identify with the many common folk who can’t afford the latest technology and super speed. There are a lot of people who fall in this group.

March 8, 2012 at 2:56 am #442521this is a great looking template which could be improved by losing some of the unnecessary JavaScript and Font stuff. Can you show me how/where to disable:
1) https://apis.google.com/…/cb=gapi.loaded0
2) http://connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js#xfbml=1
3) http://mywebsite.com/media/system/js/mootools-more.js
4) the font stuff which totals 334.9KThx

March 10, 2012 at 1:07 am #442857I figured out that I can zap the font stuff by zeroing out the css/font/$font files but that still leaves remnants, not a good solution.
This can’t be that complicated for the developers. The goal is to speed up the theme by disabling functionality which won’t be need for a specific installation. Thank you…

March 15, 2012 at 7:04 pm #443830Is anyone out there to offer some pointers how to disable functions like fonts, mootools-more.js, facebook connect, etc which aren’t needed in many cases but add bandwidth and slow down page load speed?

March 18, 2012 at 1:30 pm #444321The default slogan with the template says, “Fast, Flexible Powerful”. Maybe flexible and powerful but certainly not Fast.
I went into the template parameters and disabled everything that seemed to be related to Mootools and Font (all the Google Font stuff). I then went into Module Manager and disabled “all” modules, leaving the theme/home page at the bare minimum.
It still weighs in at 788.8KB. The JavaScript at 422.3K and Font at 334.9K. This is a problem. No obvious way for a site administrator to configure, disable this stuff and no response from support staff. This could be answered in a heartbeat.
Show me how, where, even if it’s what you consider a hack, to disable the unnecessary stuff.
