I know there are some templates that JA has put out that could feasibly be used as a photographer’s site, but I find that none of them really represent what a great photographer’s website would look like.

A photographer’s website is to be sleek and simple. The website would frame the photographs; leaving the images to be the beauty of the site, not the graphics, etc.

I have been asked to build a site for a friend who is a photographer, and quite simply have had a difficult time working with any of the JA templates on this project.

Anyways, it’s just a suggestion…would love to see a true photographer template! 😎

Do you have any practical examples of sites you have seen that represent what you feel to be a “great photographer’s website?”

    Sure…

-This one is actually a Joomla site. Not sure if they used a template or custom made their own.

These are just a few. Basically as you can see they break from typical corporate or busy look, and the images themselves create the beauty of the site.

I suppose with plenty of modifications, JA Quartz would be the closest thing to a template for photographers site use.

I think there are a number of templates you could use . . . it’s simply a matter of thinking out of the box and having the inspiration to do some serious modification to arrive at the final effect and experience you envision.

Well, consider it a challenge then! 😀

I’m going to give it a go using JA Quartz.

This one is actually a very different and interesting template, i’d never had guessed that it was a Joomla site unless i checked the code myself 🙂

I think JA should make something like this, not a copy of that one of course but something clean and slick not having the basic framework… pretty much a clean portfolio theme would be cool.
The mb-photography was a very nice (designed out of the box) template.

One of the things I was told early on was that it was very important to get a website up quickly, not to spend too much time on it (but still get it to an acceptable level). That was after I’d already spent a few months learning how to use Dreamweaver so I could do my own LOL.

I’d be interested to hear what people think of my site, http://www.alexsavillephotography.com from a design point of view. I’ve NOT used any third party templates or any “design your own” sites, as I wanted to learn how to build sites myself. It’s evolved from the original design somewhat, I’ve added menus, an online shop, and other features as I’ve gone along. I like the fact that I’m able to change whatever I like, when I like, without being limited by anything other than my own imagination.

First of all . . . I commend you in demonstrating the kind of pro-active and individual determination to learn HTML web design from the ground up. Similarly, I began my own web design learning journey very much the same way you did – using Dreamweaver and some related video training (for Dreamweaver). I will say, having first learned about HTML (with tables, layers, hyperlinks, wysiwyg, etc.), it was a bit of a “mind twist” when I was first introduced to CSS/PHP/MySQL based web design and development – though through a whole lot of PATIENCE, PRACTICE and PERSEVERANCE, I slowly-but-surely educated myself as to the virtues and benefits of CSS/PHP web design . . . and I owe a great deal of that education to the amazing help and guidance I received right here within the JoomlArt Community.

    With regard to your current website . . . . . . . .
If I may be constructively honest . . . While I applaud the process you went through to create your site and get it out there, I don’t (personally) feel that your site truly showcases your talent and services as it could. The overall color scheme is very dark and the bulk of your site content is mostly text. In my opinion – and especially within today’s online marketplace where consumers initial attention spans can be a matter of seconds – grabbing an online browser’s attention is (again, in my opinion) of vital importance . . . ESPECIALLY for a service provider whose services are BASED on the visual arts (i.e. photography).

Now, I do need to say that my comments above are premised on my lack of knowledge as to the historical success of your website since you launched it. Despite my personal constructive thoughts and opinions as to your overall design scheme, the old adage “if it ain’t broke, why fix it” holds true. If you continue to realize success with your current website scheme to your satisfaction, then you don’t really need to do anything to/with it.

That being said, however – and assuming you are showing interest in some of our JoomlArt Products – my constructive advise is to browse through our http://www.joomlart.com/joomla/templates/showcase] TEMPLATE SHOWCASE of over 110 creative and dynamic Joomla CMS based templates and review those which offer you the potential to truly showcase your talent, services, products, achievements and portfolio to the “Seeking Photographer” online searching potential client base.

    Some Suggestions . . . .
While the following is most certainly not an exhaustive list from our Template Showcase, here are a few of our Templates that I feel could work very well as a basis for a visually eye-catching and dynamic website. The thing to remember is this – do not think that the presented theme of any given template restricts you to using it for only that kind of theme/site. A template is merely a starting point from which one takes and molds/develops into a unique web experience for one’s target audience.

I hope this information has been helpful for you. After further thought, if you should have any additional questions with regard to the benefits of a Joomla based website and/or our JoomlArt Products, Membership Plans and Benefits, please do not hesitate to ask.

All the best with your continuing efforts !!!
