December 14, 2010 at 12:51 am #366617Meh! Darn Word! I will find the JCE editor and replace them all (again). I was just going to use the transparent version of my business card logo for the site since it is more horizontal. Feel free to comment anyone!! In fact, if anyone can tell me how to improve the appearance of my site overall, feedback would be much appreciated! http://www.susanisaacsre.com
Yes, a mere 6 months ago I was blissfully unaware of the term SEO. Now it seems to rule my life!
Phill, I have no clue about menu design. Can you tell me what’s wrong with the one I have now? Maybe that will help me figure out how it is supposed to work/look. Thanks!!

December 15, 2010 at 5:10 am #366869I saw there were lots of options for Norite typography but I could never figure out how to use them. I don’t see any options on the admin for it.

December 15, 2010 at 10:47 pm #367032New (but related) problem to your suggestions though—I downloaded the Joomla patch but as with every install I’ve had with anything Joomla, it won’t upload, saying there’s no XML file. There are no zip files within the zip, which is how I’ve resolved this in the past, so don’t know what to do now. Thanks!

December 15, 2010 at 10:59 pm #367038A quick look at your menu shows that it has far too many root items taking 2 lines just to display them. As it is on a narrow screen you just cannot select a lot of the items. In your case I would use megamenu instead of your current choice and reduce the number of root items to just a few so they take only one line on the navigation. You can then use the multi column facility of mega menu the separate the menu items out. Think about how a potential visitor to you site will navigate around, look at how other sites in a similar line as you do the job and steal ideas from the best.
Your logo? I would just use your company name. The big builgin on the righ just makes the image too high resulting in a lot of wasted space on the left. I am guessing that on you busineess card this space holds your contact details? On a website you do not want wasted space so keep your logo small. Again, look at similar sites to yours for ideas.
Well done to InMotion for fixing your problem.

December 15, 2010 at 11:01 pm #367039With the joomla patches you unzip the zip and upload the individual files to your joomla root overwriting the existing files. You do not do it from the Joomla back end. There are many tutoials on how to do this but please use akeeba (you have it installed) to backup your site before you start.

December 18, 2010 at 2:20 am #367429Hi Phill, I removed one line of the menu and used JCE to retype all my articles originally typed in Word (that was a pain!). I want to type in my name and change the color of the tabs on my site similarly to http://www.midcenturymodernist.com/
Interjecting some graphics and color will help I think. How can I change the colors and type my name in as a “logo”?
Thanks!Phill ModeratorPhill

December 18, 2010 at 4:11 pm #367487In the JCE editor there is a paste from work button which you can use to paste things in. TinyMCE also has that button but you have to enable extended mode from the TinyMCE plugin page.
I will look at your logo later and see what I can do. Can yo email me your ftp details please. I cannot spend too long on it as I am a little busy at the moment but I will try and do something with your logo.

December 25, 2010 at 4:48 pm #368574Can’t find that JCE button. : (
If you have the chance to look at my new “logo” (just a typed header), I’d love to know how to make the section above that a solid color and also to change the color of the tabs if possible.
Thanks Phill, have a happy holiday!AuthorPostsThis topic contains 28 replies, has 4 voices, and was last updated by sjisaacs 13 years, 10 months ago.
