    Hello,

This may not be the right forum, but so far the community here seem to be the best so far at helping me out with my questions, and since I do use this template, it isn’t all wrong.

Problem: Can’t download my DOCman files nor access any of my apache owned written aplications, not even with extensions such as eXtplorer.

This problem occured when: When I went from PHP4 to PHP5. After reading webhost instructions on how to run PHP5 instead of PHP4 (was needed for a new component that we bought). To do that I had to add the following line of code to the .htaccess file “AddHandler php5-cgi-script .php”.

NOTE: This was the first time I started using htaccess file, before that it had been left alone as a *.txt file. I am very green in this area, so I don’t know what I have to add/remove from the original joomla htaccess.txt file before renaming it.

First thing I noticed was that I had to activate “Use Apache mod_rewrite” in the Global Configuration SEF Settings, otherwise the template didn’s seem to work at all.
After I’ve done that I thought that all was well – I could see in system info that I was now running php 5.2.5 instead of php 4.4.7 and the site seemed to be working fine in both front- and backend.

After a few minutes of use, I noticed that my atempts to make a site backup (using joomlapack) failed when they tryed to get the DOCman files. I simply exclude the DOCman file folder and all worked fine. I found that to be strange since I’ve taken an update just the other day (before I changed and activated the htaccess file). I soon found out that the problem was more severe – I couldn’t download the DOCman files (docman component is owned by apache) and I couldn’t uninstall any apache owned joomla aplication.

I noticed that I can edit the apache owned files with the joomla extension eXtplorer… BUT, I could only do so when setting the webserver to run in php4 again. Then the DOCman files also are downloadable again. Problem is that I need to run php5 for certain other important aplications and I am sure that DOCman shouldn’t really have a problem running with php5? (I know that DOCman isn’t your field).

Is it likely that the component would have to be uninstalled (when running in php4) and then reinstalled when I run in php5? I don’t want to do this till someone with a better understanding of this would help me out and try to explain what may be causing the trouble as I don’t know for sure that DOCman will run without a glitch just because it’s reinstalled when server runs with php5.

I’m not sure what you may need to know to be able to help me, but I guess a good addition to my problem description would be the system info. If more info is needed, please let me know so that I can help you help me 🙂

    Site sys info:
    Database version: 4.1.21-Max
    Database Collation: utf8_general_ci
    Running Joomla version: 1.5.9
    PHP Version: 5.2.5
    WebServer: Apache/2.0.52 (Red Hat) FrontPage/5.0.2.2635
    WebServer PHP Interface: cgi-fcgi

I really hope that some kind soul can help me fix this or point me in the direction to where I can find help.

    Your help is much appreciated!
