After upgrading my site to PHP 5.2, to be able to install Joomla Comment which requires PHP 5.x, newly posted articles result in a resize function error:

Warning: imagejpeg() [function.imagejpeg]: Unable to open ‘/home/zioclope/public_html/news/images/resized/images/stories/150908feature_100_57.jpg’ for writing: Permission denied in /home/zioclope/public_html/news/modules/mod_janews/helper.php on line 130

The properties of the folder in question are 755.

I was able to fix the problem by getting the hosting firm to change the properties to 777, which is not particularly safe, but works.

yes, you must set permission for all sub folder in image/resized folder to 777
