May 16, 2013 at 6:13 pm #493022I think most people do not know what they want. So I think this type of survey should not be taken too seriously…

May 16, 2013 at 6:39 pm #493027My request: We should have more templates for organisations and not for profit charity organisations.
Good work so far.Thanks.

May 16, 2013 at 8:09 pm #493030I don’t believe in “blog template, or corporate” almost any template can be used for such a wide variety of websites. With minimal changes!
I do wish to see a non standard Joomla website. Some unique menu placement, showcase or something.
Really a different style. The T3 framework is so flexible! Show us that it is, because i haven’t seen much of it!

May 16, 2013 at 9:11 pm #493032I totally agree with that sentiment and alluded to it earlier in this thread. JA templates should be flexible for many uses and instead of a simple colour variation it might be better to showcase other uses for a template.
As for your “non standard” thoughts I would love to see some examples of the type of sites you are thinking of.

Hi pedrox,
Everyone knows what they want, from life, from wife, from kids, from job and even from JoomlArt. This survey was result of the outburst / displeasure of users on our using Virtuemart with HawkStore instead of JoomShopping or other available extensions. So far i now understand that JoomShopping irrespective of its shortcoming is pretty popular with our users. Even if we use Virtuemart next time, we will make sure we have some style support for JoomShopping too.

To me, that would make a massive difference between JA and other template builders. When you present a template with an external component why not style it for 2 competing components i.e. VM and JS. Not just for shopping components but for anything. Give people a choice!
Plus what would make the difference truly noticeable would be that JA make a dedicated module for the components with each new template. Not just take the component, add it in and add styling but really make a new module especially. The list is endless here. Slideshow with click to buy in JS for example. Calendar module linked to the component etc etc etc. Think what you did with K2 and Lens so we know you have the skills!
Anyway, thanks for taking it all on-board. Could be an interesting rest of the year for your membership!

Please also notice that JA do include styling for third party modules in a lot of their templates. Acymailing is a prime example of late, many of the templates have a styled Acymailing subscription module included. With regards to shopping carts (the fully functioning ones at least) currently the most popular 4 (according to the JED) are Mijoshop, Hikashop, Joomshopping and VM in that order. With that in mind I think the JA should look at the popularity of the systems before deciding on adding styling to their templates probably discounting Mijoshop as that is a commercial only product.

I can’t speak for VM et al as I don’t use them. For JS they are not available from the makers unless at great expense. What I’m talking about is this style of module – from the list @ JED. Icetheme.com for example included an ajax cart free and free scrollers etc last year. Users could re-use this JA module in many sites and JA could offer it in any site. Just like you have JA Twitter, JA Typo etc. Specific to a component. It WOULD mean that JA would have to commit long term to a component just as you have with K2. To be honest the css is the easy bit – getting the php right isn’t. I paid for JA Content Slider to be re-engineered to include JS. I use it on many many sites to add that something extra.

With the current workload and tasks at hand, its not possible to provide style support for more than one similar extension in the monthly template.
JA Hawkstore has a new module developed for it ” JA Virtuemart Product Module (responsive)” and even the shopping cart behaviour has been enhanced with animated confirmation. The earlier template also had a new module developed for it. The features of JA Hawkstore are to be published in the next few hours on the blog, you must check it out later this evening.
UPDATE : Here is the JA Hawkstore feature blog post.
Looking at the complimentary extensions inventory (JATC extensions), any new development has to be examined not only for its usefulness to the template / users but also from our maintenance point of view. Yes, what we can do is to provide additional styles for popular addon extensions for specific components, that way we do not have to worry about maintaining them.

It was my decision to choose Virtuemart over JoomShopping for JA Hawkstore, based on the feedback from users regarding JoomShopping and requests from users for VM2 template. Not gonna lie but I wasn’t happy about the decision after going through the preview thread discussion, thats why I had to come up with this poll so as to keep the upcoming templates in sync with the requests from members.
So far JoomShopping is leading ahead of hikashop, so next shopping template would be featuring JoomShopping, another option we have is to update JA Hawkstore for JoomShopping and release as bonus template later this year.
Regards
Arvind
