@tempusserbia 65256 wrote:
Call me stupid, but I really do not understand this. Let me explain it by example:

I want to use Teline II, and I go to download section of template, and download it. Package contains: Template, PSD, and extension “JA NEWS”.

Now I want to use, for example Xenia, and implement “JA NEWS” in it, so I go to extensions download page and download it as FREE BETA VERSION.

So, tell me what’s difference between extension from template package, and independent extension?!

I do some research and compare files from extension packages (template and independent) line by line, and can not find any difference.

By my opinion both packages are same, and must be marked as BETA, which then extend to templates too. Tell me if I am getting this wrong.

I have not tried it yet, and I may not be able to do it until this weekend, but if you actually try it tempusserbia, the JA News with component is very different from the JA News that is found in most templates.

Please read the responses of Hung to my first inquiry. If it works as he suggested, almost any Joomlart template, or even template from other companies, can be converted into a magazine template — that is a very radical advance.

Also, according to Hung, it allows formating of the layout of the categories. That is another new feature that I have been asking for JA Teline II.

If Hung will answer my follow up questions, and this new JA News Extension, will be updated, and those who buy it will get free updates of all future changes — then they can sell it as a separate extension.

What Joomlart is doing with this new extension, iJoomla sells for a total of $150 — $75 for iJoomla News and $75 for iJoomla Magazine — with no template even because iJoomla does not make templates. I should know this, I bought iJoomla Magazine and I told Merav, the owner of iJoomla that I will buy both –(a total of $150) if she can combine the features of both iJoomla News and iJoomla magazine.

Merav promised me way back in September 2007 that she can finish it in two weeks.

It is now July 2008, iJoomla does not still have a native version of iJoomla Magazine for Joomla 1.5x, and iJoomla News is still in early stage.

There is more, why if the new JA News with component will work as promised, it would be much much cheaper than the iJoomla product — provided the buyers get lifetime update for this extension — but I do not want to give Hung any ideas.:)

So, let us not be too greedy either — provided this new JA News will be sold as I suggested in my second clarification to Hung, which he did not yet respond to — then

JA News with components, will be another very radical advance, even much better than JA Teline II — if it works.

So, as much as I have been critical of Joomlart — I would not begrudge them the right to sell this separately for additional cost.

Just do the math I told you. If I bought it from iJoomla — it will cost me a total of $220 => $150 (for news magazine component) +70 (for the template).

I think it will be difficult for customers to understand this if they think all Joomlart templates now are the same.

JA Teline II is very different from all Joomlart templates. What the new JA News with components as a separate extension can do, is to potential make most Joomlart templates (Joomla 1.5x version only) into the equivalent of JA Teline II.

That is a very very radical advance — no Joomla templates company has a similar produt yet, even if they come up with the equivalent of JA Teline II.

Again, what I stated here will be true only, if Joomlart delivers a good extension — no bugs, or at least updated reqularly, good literature for easy use, and good support.

    N.B.

You cannot compare two products just by looking at the files and folders — you have to try them.

This would be like stating the Snow Leopard upcoming OS system for Apple as comparable to the current Leopard because there are no new features see visually — everything is done in the scripts, in fact, they are making it leaner. And yet, everyone who understands the promise of radical computing are anticipating and eager its coming out. Many research groups in the most advanced computer research institutions, including the academia have been trying to make one, but so far no one has succeeded.

For this reason, some analysts go so far that it will lead to the demise of Microsoft. But, I won’t bet my money on that. Most average people will still be buying Windows, and many clueless analyst will still go with the mantra that Windows PC are cheaper for the customers, has more programs, blah, blah, blah. Knowing my own capabilities, I would gladly pay for Apple products than buying those PCs.

Not that Joomlart could even be the equivalent of Apple in the templates company business, but let us give them credit for this advance — in regard the JA News with component, extension.

I suggest we keep on track here, its about beta extensions not books.

Well, the most important question for me is the license. As if these are not GPL compatible, there is no sense for me.

How do we expect to go from Beta to something with no one responding?

Very good question! But will there be a response? Only time will tell.

If we use the JA Teline II forum as a barometer, we already know what time may tell.

So far no 1.0x version yet, digimate. Although it is not clear whether Joomlart will make Joomla 1.0x compatible stuff.

    Thanks for your reply.

Maybe then it’s better to take away the icons that ‘tell’ us hat this extension is also working with ‘1.0 Native’.

So, like the JA News extension also this extension will not work with version 1.0 !!!?

But why does Joomlart let us think it will work with both versions??

I cannot answer for Joomlart, digimate. And I hope they will come out with Joomla 1.0xx version too since most of my sites are in Joomla 1.0xx. Maybe they will. Give them time.

    To Hung and Joomlart Staff:

There must be separate Forums for these Beta JA Extensions, or if you plan to use the JoomlArt Extensions Discussion Forums, this must be opened to all customers. The last time I checked before my designation was changed to Developer, a regular member could not access the JoomlArt Extensions Discussion Forums. This might be the case already because I saw some customers who are not Developers who can access and post to the site.

More important, if no support to issues arising these templates are not answered by Joomlart Staff — then these new Extensions Forums may just become another venue for “beat Joomlart and Joomlart Staff” postings.

My own prelimiary observations for example has not gotten any response, so far.

It is really really very frustrating if Joomlart does not respond — especially because in Beta testing, Joomlart or any company actually are using people as free labor to do the dirty job for them. Joomlart will make money of it, and the clueless guinea pigs won’t even get any slop.

The extensions in beta will be only for Joomla 1.5.
