Hello,
I got a basic question I didnt find yet answered even in the tutorials:
How is the Popular/Latest Post Module supposed to work?
– Do I have to feed the module with articles by hand with the article paths?

April 20, 2012 at 8:38 am #449252Hi Ruediger,
What do you mean by “feed the module with articles by hand with the article paths” ?
In JA Rave 2.5 demo site it is using custom module.. so you will need to add the links manually.
However, you can use core joomla modules http://easycaptures.com/fs/uploaded/511/8479694723.png and add them to the position to get the automated functionality. You can also try the JA bulletin module for the same purpose and publish them to the tab position currently used by the custom modules.
Let me know if you still need help.
May 6, 2012 at 1:58 pm #451679Hi SH,
thank you for your kind answer. But I am afraid I still didnt get into it.
The modules like “Latest News” are picking the Articles which are modified rectently automaticaly and change the order accordingly. And one can easily choose how many modified articles are shown in the module
When I try to replace the demo links in the module “Popular Posts” with other articles I face several problems:
1. On which position should new addition of articles be placed.
2. Do the module change the position (ranking) by itself? I yes, where can I see how many hits the articles have (which should be the factor for ranking)?
3. I found no way to define how much articles should be shown.Regards,

May 7, 2012 at 2:33 am #451742hi agepal,
i would like to answer your questions as following
1. On which position should new addition of articles be placed.
when you choose to show article options in the module setting those options would be placed right under the article titles
2. Do the module change the position (ranking) by itself? I yes, where can I see how many hits the articles have (which should be the factor for ranking)?
I Think the module could not be ordered by the hits number you can check the field of Order in the module back-end to see that.
3. I found no way to define how much articles should be shown.
In the module back-end you have a field of “Number of Displayed Items” you can define the number of articles to displayMay 11, 2012 at 4:08 pm #452613Hi SH,
<blockquote>when you choose to show article options in the module setting those options would be placed right under the article titles</blockquote>
I didnt find any options at module setting. The question remains, on which position a new article should be placed. Normaly one would guess it should be the last position, because as the module show the most popular articles a new article could not be on a popular post at its start.
But what if there are lets say 100 Articles and the popular posts show 5. A new article could not be placed in the top five right from the beginning. There MUST be any kind of automatic choosing and featuring an article that got so popular that it makes its way into the list.
<blockquote>I Think the module could not be ordered by the hits number you can check the field of Order in the module back-end to see that.</blockquote>
If the module is not ordered by the hits how do an article qualifiy to be a popular article?
At back end you can see the top 5 most hits articels but it includes any module or component that is often modified by the admin.
<blockquote>In the module back-end you have a field of “Number of Displayed Items” you can define the number of articles to display</blockquote>
Where is that field. I canĀ“t find it (see picture)What sense make a popular posts module if it doesnt choose and show the most seen articles?
Regards,
Ruediger
May 11, 2012 at 8:54 pm #452672Just thinking:
Could it be that the popular posts Module implemented in plain Ja Rave is just a demo version and is not supposed to work at all to begin with? That would explain the whole issue.

Regards,
Ruediger</blockquote>Yeah, you might have not read my above post , those modules at the Ja rave are just Custom HTML module so they are there for demo purpose only, You can try the JA bulletin module for the same purpose and publish them to the tab position currently used by those custom modules, the JA bulletin can be downloaded here
Let me know if any doubts you have.
May 12, 2012 at 4:50 pm #452792Hi SH,
Thanks. I read your above post but didnt unterstand what you meant with <blockquote>you can use core joomla modules http://easycaptures.com/fs/uploaded/511/8479694723.png and add them to the position to get the automated functionality.</blockquote>
Your suggestion with JA bulletin module I tried and it work properly. Thanks again.
One point I didnt get right. What if I want to use/keep the popular/latest post module (I like the look)? What do you mean with “use core joomla modules” to get the automated functionality?
Sorry, I am quite a bit confused with the joomlart templates and what modules are supposed to work right with the quickstart download and which of the modules seen with demo version have to be bought additionaly.

</blockquote>Those are core joomla modules that comes with a fresh joomla installation, what I meant is you can user those modules instead of the Custom html modules.

If you replace those popular/latest post modules by other as I mentioned then the look maybe is different, if you want to keep the current look I think you would need to modify the style of new modules

Normally those modules at the ja-tabs position should be mod_jabulletin I don’t know it’s custom module for this template.Only 3rd party extensions needs to be purchased, for JATC demo only JA Comment / JA Showcase components are part of JAEC, rest of the other modules are provided complimentary for the demo template.

I tried that without success. Can anybody tell me how to get the “popular post” module automaticaly working (like ja-bulletin do when put on its place).
There should (must) be a way or what sense would it make to implement the popular/latest post module in ja-rave quickstart.

Hi agepal,
To get the Ja-bulletin module look like the”popular post” module you can try as following
1) Create a folder name templatesja_ravehtmlmod_jabulletin and put my attachment file under this folder (remember to unzip it first )
2) Open the file of templatesja_ravecsstemplate.css and adding this css
#jabulletin img{
background-color: #F2F2F2
border: 1px solid #DDDDDD
padding: 4px;
width:30px;
height:30px;
}
