Hi
If the position is defined under the container it used the max width of container .
To make the position in a full width you need to defined the position in block , just like home position block is defined .
This guide helps you to do this process .

Hi
Position 1 is defined in the "/tpls/blocks/spotlight-1.php" in template "uber".
You should create a new block and defined a new module position in it . And then defined the block in the layout files present in the /tpls folder .
You can see /tpls/blocks/home.php" in template "uber". as an example .
