September 30, 2009 at 5:48 pm #144742The issue of Ordering of Categories in JA News2 Teline III has been resolved finally. Thanks to JA Developer and Scotty:
Solved Bug: Section Categories don’t order Correctly
http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/bug-section-categories-dont-order-correctly/[Note: The revision outlined above has not yet been included in Teline III v1.3, so you have to modify the file yourself.]
One issue related to the presentation and ordering of categories and contents using the JA News2 would be a situation where there are too many categories in a Section — an issue that was noted (in other threads) also by other Teline III users. Here’s the situation:
Technically, it is possible to present a gazillion number of categories in the JA News2 Teline III (FrontEnd). Practically, “presenting all the categories when there are too many” is not done, or should not be done, because of aesthetic considerations and layout restrictions. The page will be a “mile long” and the page speed loading will be terrible, if it will not time out. The latter may be observed perhaps as “JA News2 not showing’ (???) — a problem that a number of Teline III users have posted.
As important, in so far as the JA New2 (FrontEnd) is concerned, presenting too many categories in one Section would crowd the presentation of other Sections, let alone the categories in these other Sections.
Practically therefore, most of the Categories in each Section are likely to be hidden in JA News2 Teline III (FrontEnd). In fact, to avoid very slow page speed loading, I even reduced the number of Sections that appear in the JA News2 Teline III (FrontEnd)
At noted by other members also in other threads: What is the best way to “present” the other categories as well as their contents (articles) that will not appear in the JA News2 Teline III (FrontEnd)?
As scripted, the JA News2 Teline III (FrontEnd) is not optimally configured to address the aforementioned issue.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

September 30, 2009 at 8:19 pm #319212Yes, this would be a great module if only there were some way in the admin panel to limit the number of categories displayed at the front end. In its present form it is just not usable on larger sites.
There also really needs to be a way in the admin panel to list which categories we want to be shown as options on the front end.
So come JA give us these two options and make the JA-News module a really great module not just something that looks pretty but isn’t much use.

Otherwise, like some of my other suggestions, some think that the features I am requesting only benefit me, rather than the notion that they are critical features to make such extensions like JA News2 useful.

It’s absence is not a bug though, but without this feature, it is difficult to manage JA News2.
