September 6, 2009 at 11:14 am #316530more on number 4….
This is something Cornelio has requested a few times too and I’d imagine there are plenty of Joomla users what would like this feature. There were rumors that it would be implemented in Joomla 1.6 but I don’t know if it will.
J1.5 has the ability to ‘clone’ meuItems so it does not seem that far fetched to me that they could ‘clone’ articles to a different category. Thus allowing only one article to be edited and the edit reflecting in the clone on the other category. Actually sounds very simple in theory. Possibly there is an extension that already allows this?

September 6, 2009 at 12:04 pm #316535Hi Scotty.. Thanks for your reply and comments.
1. JA News Frontpage: My point is that now we select the stories we want to appear in JA News FP manually when we enter a new story. I would like to select the category or section or articles by their ID number too. For example to present only news from one category at the JA NewsFP and this to be done with the parameters of the actual module. This way, maybe i am wrong, we can also create JANEWS FP modules for each section or category by selecting the latest stories (or stories by their ID number) for example for each category and chosing where to appear with the Menu Assignment of the module. i.e. JA News FP with world news for the World category and so on. All major news sites do that by repeating the top front page layout in the category/section pages. We can also use the Headline FP layout which is excellent.
2. JA Bulletin: Yes, to select pictures all left, or all top, or all right. This way you can have different bulletins for various categories in different positions in front page or inner pages. I did it with 50x50px image sizes and it looks great. It is also great for the bottom user positions where we can even present just an interesting article… but now there are limits with the image positions – they are all left and with no option for text.
3. Yes, articles are cloned to each category if you asign them to different categories. You can do this even with Word Press.
Thanks again for you reply and comments.

Dear Mate,
You can use the quickstart to use test the template with demo content. No separate template file is being released now. As its still in beta, you shall have the regular template zip files once the stable version is released.

This is possible using a template override. You could design the override, a category blog page override, to look like the JA News FP. This has been done with Cooper where the frontpage looks like JA news Fp but is actually just a template override.
Again… I’d suggest starting a new thread on this when the final release is out and I’d be happy to help. No point in working on it until then as we don’t know what’s bugged and what’s not.
September 6, 2009 at 2:46 pm #316548I kind of adopted some advice I read on here somewhere, that as I was only just starting out developing my site and intending to use Teline II, I should wait until Teline III was released.
Well, I have done little more than add a dozen or so articles in Teline II and now that there is a Beta of Teline III I am wondering whether or not I should install the Beta so that I can make more progress in getting my site ready to go online.
There doesn’t seem to be any advice on how to migrate from Teline II to Teline III – though somebody asked for this before me.
Any advice from somebody in the know, please?

September 6, 2009 at 2:55 pm #316550There’s no real “migration” from Teline II to Teline III as it really is a matter of just switching templates – in the Template Manager, especially if your simply going to moving a few modules around and not customising anything.
If your going to be making ALOT of customisation i.e. editing template.css, index.php and so on, then you need to wait for the full version before changing over, and not using a beta – as when you install the full version – you will have to revert from the beta to the full and therefore you will have to re-customise everything again.
September 6, 2009 at 3:03 pm #316552I don’t intend to be editing any css if I can help it.
When I installed Teline II, I simply used the Quickstart. I was more concerned about what would happen to my database (if anything) if I simply did the same with Teline III – though without the sample data, obviously.

Scotty, JA Staff, and other users of the Teline series
There is an extension for this already, and you even cited it in one of your posts. The Jxtended Magazine extension was created last year, about the same time that the JA Teline II was developed.
Omarran, a member here, was the first to alert me about this, in his response in 2008 to my post (written on 3 August 2007); some of the requested features in my original posts were implemented in Teline II. When I first visited Jxtended Magazine last year, based from the tip of Omarran, the features were still kind of rudimentary. If I am not mistaken, they did not show any actual site using it. I visited the Jxtended Magazine extension site again recently based from the tip of instantinlaw, who confirmed that the company he works for is using Jxtended Magazine, but using a custom made template.
The Jxtended Magazine extension is even more advanced now than it was last year. Its desired features is not limited to placing articles in multiple sections and categories. They basically addressed most of the features I requested in a thread here in Teline III
Desired features of Teline III
http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/desired-features-of-teline-iii/and much much more that I was interested with, but did not include in the aforementioned post. Apart from the multilinking of articles to multiple categories; categories themselves can be placed in multiple higher groupings (Publication, Series, Sections). Also, unlike the alias in existing Joomla 1.5.x, multiple authorship, and subarticle features are possible.
To rephrase their statement: “Only the your imagination limits what can be done.” Unlike the usual Joomla extension, they had to start from the ground up to address the limitations of Joomla Articles, Sections and Categories scripts to be able to implement the features I outlined above.
Moreover, one of Jxtended Magazine near term goals, to be implemented in v2.2 (they are now in v2.15), will address the issue of security — through increased granularity of the ACL down to article level. This is much requested feature is one of the first white papers that Joomla considered for the upcoming Joomla 1.6. Improved ACL may not deter the most dedicated hackers, but it would at least impede most amateur spammer and bots.
What is as important, they showed more sites integrating Jxtended Magazine. In other words, the integration is doable, if one has the background and expertise to write the “integration scripts”. It is not far-fethed therefore to extrapolate that a Joomlart template, like Teline III may integrate the desired features of the Jxtended Magazine extension.
I bought the Jxtended Magazine extension already. I was able to install it in Teline II (and the Demo Teline III) with no problem. Many of the features are straightforward. However, I just do not have enough background and experience to do the final “integration” step — it will require additional integration scripting.
The point though is that the integration with Joomla templates has been demonstrated by a number of sites. The current Joomla page has integrated this extension, if I am not mistaken using JA Purity???
Thus, Jxtended Magazine extension works with current Joomla 1.5.x. We do not have to wait for Joomla 1.6. As noted by Omorram, instantinlaw and you (if I am not mistaken), the creators of Jxtended Magazine are members of the core team of Joomla. They indicated in their site that the features of Jxtended Magazine extension will indeed be implemented in Joomla 1.6.
Jxtended Magazine extension is quite cheap ($70 per year mostly for the technical support) and has a very generous license, unlike many commercial templates and extensions, anyone may use it in as many sites upon initial purchase. I have to check this later and edit this post if needed, but if I read it correctly, the license is GPL
If I am not mistaken they even encourage further development. So, there is no reason why Joomlart cannot buy it, and integrate it (with blanket license agreement) for templates like the Teline series. I am sure they will welcome this, especially if they are going to include the features in Joomla 1.6.
I am willing to collaborate with anyone who has some background, experience and interest on this integration project to explore what can be done to integrate this with Teline III. I will prepare a Sandbox site once a stable Teline III version (once released) with this Jxtended Magazine extension already installed. This Sandbox will be shared with those who would want to collaborate.
I would be more delighted however if Joomlart will embark in a similar endeavor, so that members may eventually have a more seamless integration of Jxtended Magazine with current and future versions of the Teline series.

September 6, 2009 at 3:56 pm #316554I know that i have been critical of Joomlart templates the last few months, however, i have been re-inspired with Teline three, originally, i was thinking, OMG another of the same, but i am blown away, the options layout and template is amazing, congrats!

September 7, 2009 at 3:00 am #316595Just wondering how painful it will be upgrading to Joomla 1.6 when it comes out. Are the developers of this keeping this in mind? The ACL feature built into J1.6 will work perfect combined with the Teline III template.

Dear crazyleggs,
As per my knowledge and brief chat with Mr. Sam Moffat (Joomla Core Developer) at Joomla Day Bangkok, Joomla 1.6 is yet to develop or confirm the Migration process from J 1.5 to J 1.6. Many things have changed (not only the ACL). None of the templates (J 1.5.xx native/legacy) are going to work out of the box on J 1.6. Besides, why worry? JA would be releasing all the current Templates for the J 1.6 version too, once its stable and released. Thats what JA did when J 1.5 came around.
