September 4, 2009 at 6:47 pm #316391Hung and team,
I am amazed by this template! Even though I have no use for a news template, I just might modify it completely to be able to use all the features. Nice integration for the comments too. Congrats!
Cheers,

September 4, 2009 at 7:19 pm #316393sunrise;143340Hi there Arvind, I like your new pictrure, and that of your wife. Hope all is well with you both.
Thanks havard,
Thats so sweet of you, Yaa things are fine here. Scotty made the new pic for me, had been quite lazy to make one for myself. My wife pic is more prominent in the pic, well thats how it should be, right? ha ha.
Be in touch mate, its always a pleasure to hear from you.

September 4, 2009 at 9:11 pm #316403No problem at all with the installation.
These are not bug reports but suggestions.
Page Loading. As configured, the Frontpage took more than 30 seconds to load. That is very slow. There is a need to tighten it up so that the speed can be faster, i.e., less than 5 seconds.
Highlight Modules. The content of the highlights modules are static (custoimized). The drawback of this static (customized) approach is that unless the webmaster changes the content manually, these modules get dated very fast. It will require a lot of work to be updating one feature per category in all the sections.
Is there a way to make the highlight modules dynamic? Personally, it would be too much work for me to do this manually, so I might end up unpublishing these highlight modules if they cannot be made dynamic.
One approach to create dynamic “Hightlight” modules would be along the lines of the scripting of the previous “Hot Topic” module in Teline II where specific categories are entered, and the contents in these selected categories would be the ones that would show up in the “Hot Topic” module. One presentation would be where Alternatively, the contents could be randomized.
I am sure there might be other ways, like a webmasters edited version of an RSS feed.
Hot Topic Module I saw a “Hot Topic” category, but I did not see the “Hot Topic” module. Is there a way to place the “Hot Topic” module back? It is true that it is in the Teline II, but I do not want to be downloading the latest version of Teline II in the future, just to get this module integrated in Teline II,

5 Seconds? It’s up to the developer, ie. you, how much content/images you wish to display on the page and this will reflect in your load times. As the quickstart contains many images and scripts for the tabs etc the load time may be longer.

Scotty,
Hung stated:
“… please report bug reports and modifications,” My comments on the highlights modules are suggested modifications to see if Joomlart could improve them.
As they configured, they will either require too much manual work on the webmaster, or their contents get dated pretty fast.
I do not know about other website creators here, but it would render all the Highlight modules useless for me.

Agreed Cornelio,
Both the threads are monitored by the developers of Teline III, the bug thread is to be kept only for critical functional bugs only. Suggestions, modification and requests will be moved in here and in the coming days all the thank you posts will be merged too…. so that the thread becomes more precise… scattered comments and feedbacks can be difficult to track.
Thanks a lot for your active participation in teline iii development.

September 5, 2009 at 1:21 pm #316467Here Firefox 3.5.2 with cleared cache on a 6MB line took 7.45 seconds on the teline iii demo site.
Would be even faster if it was hosted in my own country.

Cornelio,
“Hot Topics” and or “Feature Articles” is on our Teline III development. We’re investigating the best way to archive it. You’ll have a dynamic module, not just static module like it is now. 😎

The slow problem is from the Comment System. Turn it off and see how fast T3 is. This problem has been addressed since we started to integrated the Comment System into T3. It’ll be fixed in the final production by loading all the Comment System elements last, when all of your contents have been fully loaded.

</blockquote>Hieu Nguyen,
That is good to know. I installed the “Hot Topic” module from a zip file mod_jacatslwi_j15.zip. It worked, but all the CSS needed to be changed because the background and text colors were odd.
Apart from the Highlight modules, the static modules, like MarketWatch, and those at the bottom four positions and else can use similar transformation to dynamic modules. Apart from a possible “hot topic” like approach, in the case of MarketWatch, a modified RSS feed module, with the ability to edit content and order them might be another approach. The New York Times, in its Technology section does this to integrate tech articles from other newspapers and the more famous blogs. Other article consolidator sites, including Google, Yahoo, have similar types of modules.
Chris actually wrote a tutorial for the RSS feed consolidation, if I am not mistaken. However, it does not have the feature of edit (to avoid duplication as well as delete insignificant articles) and ordering to place the most prominent articles at the top. The script for this you already have with the JA NewsFrontpage

I was thinking of removing the Comment altogether and adopt a comment system used by AppleInsider (an Apple rumor mill). They have an automated system of placing the articles to a separate Forum (with separate database???) where moderated comments system would be adopted. If I am not mistaken, Joomlart has a similar system — multiple sites that were then integrated with a multisite registration – login software?

September 6, 2009 at 12:20 am #316503Can we display the pictures on an article if we want the old fushion way ? I have tryied this on a betta installation and i couldn’t figure out a solution. It will be good to have an option about how the pictures will be displayed the old or the new way.
Although i like a lot the way T3 displays the pictures.SHoggard FriendSHoggard

September 6, 2009 at 12:30 am #316505This should probably be a separate thread (sorry):

Yes I’m looking at Agora and kunena for that function – there’s a bit of a problem with User Profiles – neither offer custom profile fields in their registration process, so if you want/need additional user data or to show user profiles then you’d have to go through another component like CB or JUser which means additional registration etc.
What does JA use in its membership/profile mainsite/forum process – if it works here it probably works for us 🙂

September 6, 2009 at 7:28 am #316519Congratulations for a well designed T3. I am playing with the beta version and I found that has most of the functions I need for my news website and as a journalist I would like to make some comments and suggestions for improvement:
1. With JA NewsFrontpage to be able to select the news by category or section too. This way we will be able to use Frontpage for all section and category front pages. We can also present news by category or section in various parts of the site i.e. with the Headline FP layout option. I tried it, it looks great but I am not able to chose the news by category i want…
2. I did not try it too much, but is it possible Search to open in a new page instead of making a mess with the front page?
3. JA Bulletin is a jewel. You do not need to make manual the Feaured News etc. You can make dynamic any static part of the website, by selecting latest news or most read news by category and presenting them in any part of the front page or in the section category pages. But it needs some modification to present images in different positions left, top, right etc and to decide the number of characters of text., or even to present just a story with article ID. I believe very easy for the JA designers to do it.
4. Ability to classify/present news in more than a section or category – it is a must for a news website.
5. We must also work on the comments/social/forum side of the tamplate.
Congratulations again.scotty Friendscotty

Is that not what the main menu is for?? Or am I missing your point? Do you want to show which category each article is in on JA News FP? This would be easy enough to implement but would anybody ever click it? Wouldn’t users be more likely to be attracted by the actual article and not it’s category?2. I did not try it too much, but is it possible Search to open in a new page instead of making a mess with the front page? It does load a new page but it also loads the modules that are set to appear on the front page. This is a joomla limitation. It’s fixable though. More info here.
JABulletin uses the same template or layout for each bulletin. It would not be easy to allow to style the bulletins individually. If you want to style ALL pics left or right then this would be an easy mod. I suggest you start a thread when the stable version is released.
4. Ability to classify/present news in more than a section or category – it is a must for a news website. Joomla limitation again I’m afraid. Articles can only be assigned to a single category.
5. We must also work on the comments/social/forum side of the tamplate.
Congratulations again. As it’s JoomlArts first attempt at adding a comments feature I think they have done a darn good job on it. There are one or two problems but these are being worked on as we speak. -
