You should also check out what Agora is doing. They just released their Agora Olympus forum, and are shortly releasing ‘Agora Groups’, which has some similarities to JomSocial.
Also, they have a discussbot that is out – the commercial one is coming in 2-3 weeks – that does what jomComment does but allows users to post comments in both the forum or in the article and the two co-exist. (Way cool!)
They also have ‘Agora Latest’ which displays lastest forum posts on the front page. There is a Kunena one available, but it is not very good — very limited and is a 3rd party extension. 🙁
The Agora team is working on the complete package..whereas as with Kunena, they don’t appear to be interested in anything other than their forum.
And no, I don’t work for Agora, but have been actively playing with both extensions for some time now.
Furthermore, the Agora support team is 2nd to none. If I am Joomlart this would be a major consideration to me.Agora will leave Kunena in the dust.</blockquote>
well that’s the supposed result for Agora’s complete package, and they are still ‘working on it’ whereas the 1.2 Jomsocial and 1.5 Kunena are coming to already a stable stage, and would be just in time for this template. for the whole Agora system to be up and running, tested for a long time, and further stabilized would be too long a time from this template. :p

Well, this is true. Certainly Jomsocial and Kunena have stable programs already. Also, it is not difficult for the designer to add the Agora products and remove the JomSocial and Kunena if they wish.
Ultimately though, I would like to see Joomlart try to do some stuff with Agora products sometime down the road. As I said before I am really, really impressed with the team they have over there.

May 15, 2009 at 11:32 pm #304778This is a great idea. I think branching out to the two communites will bring in lots of new customers. I can’t wait for this! Also… the new feature for Agora will be a $mod. Kunena and Jomsocial have already agreed to support each other.

They have agreed to support each other because they have to. Agora is coming, and if they don’t do something they are going to lose market share. What I have seen, Kunena has already said they aren’t interested in even developing their own extensions to work with their forums. Ie ‘Latest forum Posts’. (There is a 3rd party developer that has created one called ‘KunenaLatest’ but, with all due respect to the developer, I wouldn’t be adding it to any of my sites.)
I guess my point is, yes, the new Agora Groups will be a money mod. But Jomsocial isn’t free either.
Anyways, I’m not arguing…just friendly debating. Personally I would like to have the entire community package from one developer rather than having several 3rd party extensions to work through.
Of course, it is moot because as someone else already pointed out to me, the Agora products are still in beta/development stage and aren’t stable enough at this time.

you are very right. I liked Agora but there isnt solid integration yet for jomsocial and it. I tried Agora out and I like some features.. I wish the backend was a little stronger but eh it cant all be perfect

Agora did their part for Jomsocial integration. Jomsocial said they would provide integration on their end as well but did not come through (apparently).
Anyways, by the looks of things Agora is coming out with ‘Agora Groups’ which has a lot of basic features that CB has but not to the extent of course as Jomsocial.
I just like that you don’t have to worry about integration because it is all done by the same design team.

May 19, 2009 at 10:43 am #305067Thank you very much for all of your nice comments.
This will be the first template for June so stay tuned… Sometimes waiting is fun :D.
I have just uploaded the concepts for Kunena Forum design.
Hopefully we have JomSocial concept by this time tomorrow.
