    I guess it depends on how extension is coded.
    Some scripts check in to developers server and compare licensed domain.

    @wooohan

    So in short, you are are paying for the support, not the software.

    In any event, whether it is legal or illegal, I sort of find it unethical to download software for free that the developer is trying to charge money for. Maybe that’s me assuming that they are just regular folk with families to feed.

    But of course, it’s tempting. :p

    yea true but i doubt jomsocial would sue the websites, probably a DMCA would be it.

    PM if you would like to get buy over my license, still a good 10months license. professional jomsocial license by the way, no scam, just that i switched over to socialengine and no longer need Jomsocial. I would be willing to sell it for a very low price.

    Yes, because the GPL does not allow any sale of the forked products. This is done with a shopping system called Gambio GX for example. In short, Gambio GX is a fork of the software xt:commerce 3.04 which is also offered under same “pay for support to get the download from the developers” scheme, where xt:commerce 3.04 is a fork of osCommerce, so both are under this agreement and it is somehow a strange thing. Because both systems you can download for free and even with agreement by the developers, more or less, some sued those and those them, but stil you can download the softwares anywhere, even as modified enhanced versions again for free and get support, far better support as the one you would get for money from the people who forked it or even in the public forums of the initial developers.

    That is why I mentioned this, it is such a confusing and complex thing, because it is not how it is with Joomla!, and I wonder if someday people will read the GPL for Joomla! for another time and suddenly you can get all those sometimes even expensive extensions for free on legitimate download sites that are not those filesharing or torrent things anymore.

    Now, I do not know if there is any “extra point” in the Joomla! licenses, that is legally effective and not just a line one could overread as it has not effect for real. But as you know Joomla! is a fork of Mambo itself and so they could not sell the software too, but could sell support with a download same as with the osCommerce forks…

    With Magento it is different, the system is not a fork and is under the MIT open source license, so there people should have some point to say, their extensions are commercial ones and that they sell those is okay but to provide those for free on any other site without the agreement by the developers is not.

    With the mentioned forks, it is also a community thing, a lot of people who simply cannot afford those extensions can get those for free and put it in their shops, as their shops are not really shops that make a lot of money but barely can pay their bills. This has become a real community issue and over the time the developers even provide those 1 time as download for money with support and provide those for another time to the community for free to special download sites with no support by them but by the community.

    Crazy thing, all I can say!;)

    By now, I also want to know when it will be released, the waiting time is nerving…:D

    It seems that ther main issue for the release is Kunena (that many people on this discussion said they do not care of…).

    It would be nice to hear from Joomlart team about this question (and in general about integrating non stable extensions). Do they have a general policy like:
    – Only release templates compatible with stable extensions ?
    – Release templates with current (potentially unstable) version of the extension ?

    And in the particular case of Kunena, it seems clear that the stable 1.5 version will not be released before weeks. It also seems stupid to release a template with the 1.0 version (and the legacy mode…). So, what is Joomlart team opinion on this ?

    I am sure they have some kind of answer… it would be nice if they could share it with us.

    Sanidine has been released with CB 1.2 RC4 for example, there is by what is regular nowhere a policy like you mention to only release templates with stable extensions etc. if here or at any other clubs, or they could not release their own extensions, lol. See, stable is still RC when it comes to Joomla!, that is normal. Any few months some new fixes come out and also when Joomla is called a stable version a good RC is already stable besides some minor issues that are resolved with the stable release. (Same with Microsoft Software or any others…:cool:)

    It is normal that template releases take some longer time here and for most members it is also no problem, no serious issue. But you’re right, let’s wait for some clarification from JA directly!

    I know its asking for alot but if JA could put up the demo of atleast one color we could all sign up and use it as a test community. that way if there are any bugs we can help get em stamped out before the official release.

    I think it is the best idea on this topic !

    I completely agree that a demo test would allow the community to help identifying bugs and make sure the release is close from perfection.

    Thanks Ganzuelo for the suggestion !

    @wooohanetworks

    I completely agree with you that it is impossible to release anything 100% stable. But as many people on this forum asked JA to wait for a stable version of Kunena (I don’t), i think it would be nice to see the JA dev team precisely explaining what are their criteria for a release and tell us if they plan to wait for Kunena 1.5 stable (please do not wait !) or if they will release before with either Kunena 1.0 in legacy mode or 1.5 RC (which to my opinion would be stable enough…).

    I have no problem to wait for the template to be complete and tested (and once again the idea of Ganzuelo is great!) but I would not like to wait for Kunena team to move on (they use to be so so so slow…).

    And actually, I would also love to hear JA about a potential discount for JA member to get the matching Magento template. 120 bucks for one template ! Come on !

    The only reason why JA tried to reduce the number of Joomla templates released per months is to save resources to develop Magento templates. But there was no compensation for people who subscribe to Joomla templates (and the price of the magento templates are ridiculously high). So please, make an effort and propose us a good deal to get both the magento and joomla sulfur templates.

    So to summarize:

    – Do not wait for Kunena 1.5 stable but tell us which version on Kunena will be compatible with the template.
    – Make a community demo so that we can identify bugs before the official release.
    – Make a good deal for people who want to have both Joomla and Magento templates.
    – And ultimately, negociate a discount price with Azrul for Joomlart members who would like to buy Jomsocial.

    I think it has been one of the richest pre release discussion so far :p

    It’s not a demo, it’s just images for now. It works, and they are the same inmages as at the start of this thread.
