    Hello everyone,

    I have installed the JA NEX template and are now trying to understand how it all works, in regards to changing the installed article groups and getting them to appear on the right places on the page.

    I’ve tried to read the manuals for each module and add-on but i’m still clueless to how it all works together.
    Just to explain me and joomla, im quite new to it, so bare with me. I have made some pages but non as big as this project im doing now.

    This site is going to be a online newsportal for posting local news stories.

    To get me started i need to know:
    1) Do i make my articles in K2 or in joomlas article setup?
    2) How can i see what module or addon that posts the articles. I have tried with /?tp=1 but going into the module settings the list is big and the names on the module isn’t displayed on the page.

    Deleting the extra article groups and renaming some kinda messes up the setup and the page starts looking wierd in regards of the demo template.

    I have many more questions regarding this template but i have got to start somewhere to get to the end.

    Hope for some quick replies.

    Kind regards,

    Frode Andersen, Norway

    When you installed your template, did you do so utilizing the Quickstart + Sample Data installation process?

    I ask because – especially for someone new to Joomla – it is far easier to start with the template configured just like the demo version – and modify as needed – than to try to figure out everything on your own from scratch (even with help of the Documentation/User Guide).

    I wrote an article/explanation of the value of the Quickstart + Sample Data installation process –> .

    Yes i used the quickstart + sampledata.

    So the site looks the same as the demo site. However when i try to edit the article category and delete articles things start to… change, position and size to mention some. This allso happends even if i replace articles with my publications. (I feel so newbish here…)

    Not at all . . . this is exactly how we learn. 🙂

    Might you be able to provide a screenshot of how things are displaying incorrectly on the site you’re working on?

    Also, when you start to feel frustrated and your patience might be wearing a little thin, here is a little piece I wrote several years back that holds true to this day (and hopefully you might find interesting and helpful) . . .

    THE THREE “P’s” – PATIENCE, PRACTICE and PERSEVERANCE

    I sendt you details of site in a private message.

    Regarding what changes i will post this as soon as it happends. But right now, “music news” picture and text are not inside the background frame on the site.

    Allso there are some elements i wish to remove, but when i do, the whole site changes.
    And most of it needs Norwegian language. But im not shure if 3.x joomla has a languagepack yet.

    So, unless I’m mistaken, it sounds like you’re wanting to know the basics of how to create content within K2 and articles/content within Joomla. Well, you’re in luck because the web is FULL of FREE resources to help you with both. Here are just a few (from a quick Google search) . . .

    It can be both, actually … depending on how you have things configured

    Do you know how its set up from default Tom? I have been trying to find the modules to see where it pulls the articles from, but the names from /?tp=1 is not the same as on the modules in modules list. However i found out how to install the language to Norwegian so that one is figured out now 😉

    I have now set the language to Norwegian Bookmaal, but still on the front page “read more” is shown instead of “les mer” in norwegian. I have activated it for both Front end, and backend.

    The “Read More” text is located in the language files.

    For example, the English language file /language/en-GB/en-GB.ini/en-GB.com_content.ini contains:

    COM_CONTENT_READ_MORE=”Read more: ”
    COM_CONTENT_READ_MORE_TITLE=”Read more…”
    COM_CONTENT_REGISTER_TO_READ_MORE=”Register to read more…”

    Thanks again for reply TomC my language files are correct and has the right “Les mer” text. However in the frontpage it still says Read more under articles posted in the first to modules on the page.

    Are the articles from Joomla article content, or K2 content?

    I’m going to forward this one onto the Help Desk to see if any of my fellow Support Team friends can chime in with additional thoughts and suggestions.
