I am a newbie with this Joomla stuff and bought a 3 month membership due to the fact that the product is talked up about being so SIMPLE which it is really NOT.
I have already been told I am too late to get my money back (that was a month ago) and so I have persevered….
All I want to do is install the quickstart and I have read the instructions 100 times, have uploaded the file to my FTP server and I am fine up until it says ‘Install Joomla’ Where should I be doing this?!?!!?
My host offers Fantastico and that is how I originally installed my Joomla site.Is it really that hard??????>:(>:(>:(

do not install joomla first esp via fantastico, just create an empty folder called ores at your host, create a database called ores. make note of the host supplied prefix for the database, that is most hosts use part of the domain name as a databse prefix. For example if the domain name is webhost the prefix may be webho2_
get the details from the host support if you are unsure. same goes with the username may need the same prefix
now dl the ores quickstart only not the whole kit & kaboodle.
upload via ftp that ja ores qs .zip to the folder you created. go to your host cpanel and open your filemanager, navigate to the /public_html folder, open it then look in the list of folders for the ores one.
open it, highlight the ja ores qs.zip and use the expand or extract command from file manager menu to unzip it. close the window. open your browser and go to your domain adding the /ores to your domain name
example: http://mydomain.com/oresthis will run the ores joomla installation this will install joomla and the template for you.. follow the instructions , enter your hostname and username and password and database name at the proper panel hit next then give the site a name, a valid email address, a password for the administration area.
Be sure to hit the “install sample data” button to install the site data that will make it look like the Joomlart demo of oresafter that you have to go to the ores folder via your cpanel filemanager and open the ores folder like before and remove (delete) the folder called installation
after that the site will display as per normal. While this sounds complex its not, just be sure you have the host name and username db name correct as supplied fromyour host company if you’re unfortunate to be with GoDaddy as host be prepared for really bad problems they do things very differently
Cheers Shannononce that is done go
