I would appreciate if anyone has found a way around the following problems already with respect to the “main page” of each section or category.

Here’s the situation: In the Home page of the Teline II layout, the number of characters and size of image can be specified via the “JA News Frontpage” and the “JA News” modules.

As a result, even if the number of characters before the “Read more” is greater than the the set number of characters as specified in “JA News Frontpage” and the “JA News” modules, it is the rules specified in the aforementioned modules that define a more clean layout for the Homepage.

I do not know how to solve the problem, but it seems, in the Joomla1.5.9-Teline II quickstart, I just created, all the words before “Read more” truncation appears in the Section or Category, main page.

Most problematic: It is difficult to ensure that the “number of characters” are more or less less same to ensure about the same “heigh space” for each article.

The result is even more ugly (very jugged “main page — very jugged appearrance when the contents are not all straight prose. To illustrate: A simple paragraph in “prose” may occupy just a few lines, but those same number of words, in poetry may occupy the whole page — definitely more than the all prose in the demo page.

Has anyone or the Joomlart staff know how to solve this?

One possibility, and I am sure there might be a way, how do you specify single column for the “main page” of the Section or Category. Not the best solution, but it is less ugly.

Sorry for the delay in responding. I have been busy the past few days trying to replicate the problem by creating new sites (see below).

It appears the problem indicated here was indeed isolated and unique in the site. However,t I am interested to know what went wrong, so that I can solve it in the future, if I encouter the same problem, again.

The main question really is this: What file or directory defines the layout of main page of Sections and Categories.?

What I will do is create a new user with its own password. Is “Administrator” privilege sufficient to do what you want? Or, do you need “SuperAdministrator” privilege?

Please let me know and I will send you the information you requested.

Note:
I tried to replicate the website by creating another website — by exporting the same files and directories (except the configuration.php was deleted and added the installation directory) into another site, before doing a fresh install. Different problems resulted. I gave up trying to understand the problem stated in the first post.

With teline ii, you can check following folder:

+ For template: templates/ja_teline_ii/index.php
+ For the layout of main page of Sections and Categories:
– modules/mod_janews
– modules/mod_janews_fp
