    Hi all,

Installing the Telini III I noticed the following problems that i cannot fix even by following the best I could the installing instructions and by using the Quickstart:
    1. No weather – I read somewhere that other people have the same problem. How can fix it. Any step by step instructions? Stckmarket seems ok.
    2. Problem with photos:
    (a) JA News area in the front page photos seam to be squashed
    (b) No photos in inside section/category pagesin articles and in story pages
    (c) No photos in Most Read and Latest News in JA Tabs in all pages.

I enabled plugins and modules as per instructions. In a different installation photos were appearing in inside pages in their original size and not in the ones specified with the “Thumbnail for Joomla content” plugin.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance
    Steve

Check your image folders are CHMOD to 755

    Steve,

It will help if you provide a URL to your site to corroborate your observation.

If you are doing a fresh install, use the Quckstart version. Follow the QuickStart installatio as directed, and be sure to “install the Sample date”. I have so far installed the beta and stable version 1.0, and got the expected “Demo” page.

The other possibility, from my own experience, is that your site load is “timing out” because it loads so slowly. In some browsers, some slow-loading modules may not show up.

Thks Scotty and Cornelio for your kind reply. Yes cmod is 755 and loading of demo site is fast as I tried with different systems at work and home too. I did various new installations with Quickstart and the problem exists. Maybe there is something with the hosting company that affects the image loading. There are no photos in the inside category and article pages. But there are the ads and the section Feature News column.

Take a look in your phpinfo. Is safe mode enabled?

    Steve,

I only tried it in two browsers, Camino and Firefox, older versions since I have an old G4 Mac (notebook).

The weather module showed, with 4 days for the correct city — Boston, MA (where I am). This module shows in both browsers, but like all the Tab modules, they do not show in the pdf file created using the Firefox feature.

The images for JA News and JA News Frontpage modules were exactly as shown in the Demo. I can send you a pdf, if you want.

I noticed this also in your site. I had no problem in my QuickStart kit installation. I have never encountered this before.

Can you check in the BackEnd, if the option, “Show” was checked in “Show Image”?

administrator => Extensions => Module Manager => (select) “JA News2” module => (Click to open) Module (edit) => make sure to select “Show” in “Show Image”

    In this regard, you noted:

So, this suggest that images do show in inside pages, but this is not the case it seems in the URL you provided, where I did not see images at all in the articles shown in Section and Category page layout.

I have never encountered this before. This is grasping for explanation, but the lack of images in the articles may be a case of “fidelity of transfer” of specific script files during upload or download prior to installation in the URL you provided. It is not a permissions of images themselves because the images show in the “Homepage” JA News2 module.

This is very difficult to diagnose and resolve. When I encounter this, what I usually do is make a “fresh dowload” of the software, and repeat the process of “unpacking”, “uploading” and “installing”. I take copious notes in each step. And, taking care to correct potential sources of errors as suggested.

The site loaded very slowly. It is possible it timed out. In the “Global Configuration” be sure to select “Yes” in “GZIP”. This may help.

However, the best is to simplify the modules, as well as the number of features that appear in the “Homepage”. You may place certain modules or features in other Sections only.

Hi Steve, Teline 3 uses a plugin to create thumbnails of your images in articles that can then be clicked to show the full size image. When an article is created and a user views it, the thumbnail is created and placed in the ‘resized’ folder.

Joomla creates this folder but sometimes on some server configurations it assigns the wrong permissions.

So, you need to manually create a folder called ‘resized’ inside your main images folder (not your templates one) and assign it CHMOD 755. If this does not work then try 777.

If it still is not working after that then PM me your login and FTP details and I’ll sort it for you.

Your weather module seems to be working fine to me.

RE: frontpage photos…. Teline 3 crops the top and bottom off photos for displaying in the frontpage in a kind of ‘widescreen’ effect.

    Thanks Scotty.
The problem was solved. I checked and yes there was no resized folder. I created it and worked with CHMOD 777. It did not work with 755. Photos everywhere ok now. Weather problem was fixed with the new version 1.1.
Thanks again, Cornelio and Phil too and all the other members for their help and comments.

    Hi Steve,

In addition to Scotty’s comments, the reason I asked if safe mode was enabled on your server is that one of the silly things safe mode does is prevent scripts from creating folders. It may be worth keeping this in mind if safe mode is enabled ( In the Joomla admin panel, click help>system info>php settings to find out). If it is then you might want to enable the ftp layer as a way of circumventing this restriction. Google the ftp layer as you’ll get a far better explanation than I can give.

    Hi Phil,
I checked it. Safe mode is Off. Now it works. The only issue i notice at this stage is that when I add a new story the photo does not align left, as select in the article editor, in the category inside page. But it looks ok in the article page where aligns right. I did not have enough time to work on this.

The images in article view are aligned right by the thumbnail plugin not by what you set in the article editor.

Your image (in the link you sent me) is not aligned at all. Note that if you have JCE installed it will use style=”float: left” instead of align=”left” but they style version will not work with the Caption plugin.

Therefore you must use align=”left” (this is fine with TinyMCE). If you are having problems just click the HTML button and type it in manually to the <img> tag.

    Thanks Scotty.
The only way to do it at this stage is to edit manually html and type ‘ align=”left” ‘ and it works fine. What i use is the actual latest Quickstart package without any setting changes to modules or plugins etc. It works for the rest of the demo articles and photos but not when i add new ones. I will see. Even manually doing it, is not a big problem at this stage. In the link I’ve send you the image is aligned left with the editor, but when i save it the alignement is going. Manually is ok for now I think.
