May 17, 2009 at 10:25 am #141251Hello JA Team,
I find no guidance on the topic “PSD file for Slices Export”!
In the forum is often discussed this issue, but no one gets a correct answer.
When one considers the PSD file, it is actually unusable.
If I am wrong, then I ask for clarification!
Thank you very much
Maria

May 17, 2009 at 2:25 pm #304854You are correct. There are no slices in the PSD files for any source I’ve ever downloaded, so they are basically useless.

May 17, 2009 at 11:08 pm #304909You can use them and slice them on your own. The other thing they are indeed useful for are some other things. You can move parts from one to another template, this makes it quite interesting to have like 60 templates you can build one from…
What I miss, the psds, when available, sometimes they do not contain the logo file. I don’t mind, do not use those too, but still, some people would like those in all templates, not just some.
Maybe it should be time to fill the folder with more than just some “bubbles” and backgrounds patterns. But hey, people should be able to design their own stuff, and those you do not have the skills will mostly never touch the psds, so I simply do not mind not to care if those psd miss what other clubs may provide…designers also can work with the stuff provided.;)
Sorry for you indeed, talk to you later…Thanks!
P.S.: Your signature says, you use 1.5.9! Time to update to 1.5.10!

Hello wooohanetworks,
I would like to point out that the only problem with your suggestion is; Where do you start and end your slices?
It is nearly impossible to slice up a PSD and make it match existing image sizes. It just won’t work.instantinlaw Friendinstantinlaw

All of this is true.
Personally I just modify the existing sliced graphics when I need to make a change.
My Zeolite site Collectiblesvault was completely modified using the existing sliced images.mayke Friendmayke

May 18, 2009 at 10:28 am #304963Must admit a tutorial on this issue would be welcomed by a lot of people….to come here and say its possible but not to elaborate is of no use to anyone really.

May 18, 2009 at 2:55 pm #304984mayke The slices were done in photoshop.
Phil, a tutorial on this would really do no good as you would never be able to match the original slices anyway.
But, if you really want to know, just do a google on slicing images in photoshop or something similar. slicing is very easy to do.instantinlaw Friendinstantinlaw

Would this show you how to make an image the same size as JA uses and if you slice it to whatever you want it will do the same job as the original?

May 18, 2009 at 3:21 pm #304989Actually I do not understand!
I’m also at other clubs, but since it is normal that the PSD files are delivered with slices!
Only a pity it is not so Joomlart!

May 18, 2009 at 3:24 pm #304990Hi Phil,
No and yes.
The tutorial will not show you how to make the image the same size as JA uses, and yes it will do the same job as the original.
The problem with the JA PSD files is that there is no way of knowing where the slices should start and end. You could spend days guessing where to slice, but in the end you will never get the slices exactly the same as when it was first sliced.
It is easier to edit the slices that were already made that reside in the images folder fro the template.instantinlaw Friendinstantinlaw

So true.
I’m glad you brought this topic up. Maybe JA will take notice and include the PSD with slices.wooohanetworks Friendwooohanetworks

That is just what I meant, as their is no other way, you can slice it your own with prior specs from Joomlart.com.
BUT, I checked out the psds in TemplatePlazza.com Templates and it is the same as with JA, they do not provide the real sources for whatever reason, the slices miss.
Another but, have you ever checked before, when opening the psd in PS that you did ungroup all elements before even checking for single parts. Often those are locked and also this is a hassle for some people.
BTW, it is the designers dream to get fully sliced and pre-linked psds, links and slices already named like the files should later appear in the images folder of the template….I’d love to get those, but it would mean to dream on…;)

Are the RT ones sliced, named and so you can change the whole design, render the files in Image Ready and have a full folder full of pre done images matching the ones in the original folder but with a new design…
If so, and when it is mandatory for you to have this function and hassle free work process, there is no way around to stay with the clubs that support this need and provide those.. JA won’t in the near future…sorry! In this case I speak from some experience with cases or issues like this, it would mean some change of business procedures on JAs side and those are often not done quickly unless a big mass of members would complain radically about this…
BTW, if RT templates come sliced and so on, it is like a ice cream van filled with candy rolling unattended through town 😀
