Hi everybody,
the hierarchy of the news is: section > category
in home page we can set some section (into a menu) and for each of this section we can organize some categories (sub-sections).
ex: sections are > news | sports | gossip | tv
each setions can have several (and different) categories.
but if we set sections like > new york | boston | miami | los angeles
and categories like > news | politic | sport | art&culture | special (the same for each section)
IS IT POSSIBLE TO SET A MODULE THAT IS ABLE TO RECOVER NEWS FROM A SPECIFIC CATEGORY SUCH AS “special” ?
A MODULE THAT READS NOT A SECTION BUT THE SAME CATEGORY PRESENT IN EACH (and different) SECTION…IS IT ABLE TO CROSS FROM A SECTION TO ANOTHER LOOKING FOR A PARTICULAR CATEGORY?
thank a lot in advice

April 3, 2009 at 6:05 pm #299877OWW My head hurts! 😀 Hey, but that’s talking Joomla Hierarchy for you
Let me see if I’m understanding what you’re asking…
You want to set a module that will, for example, combine all of the “News” articles from New York, Boston, etc. into one place? And then combine of all the politics articles from all of the cities…that sort of thing. Is that how I’m reading this?
john.

andrea</blockquote>Hi Andrea,
As jbrett stated: “OWW My head hurts! ” But, I think I understand what you were trying to convey.
What you meant might “crosslinking” of the same article in different “sections” and categories”. For example, New York Times may include
“Apple previews new 10-inch mobile computer”
in both business section and technology sections, and may be included or index further in multiple other sections and categories, e.g., mobile computing, in their blogs, gadgets and more.
Obviously, New York Times and most other online news and magazines can do it, so it must be doable. It just requires some scripting. Unfortunately, this is one of the many features I have been requesting but I am not sure that Joomlart will provide this.
JA Tabs Extension
Having stated the above; technically, it may be possible to use the JA Tabs extensions to create modules that will extract article links from multiple categories. It is possible to insert such a JA Tabs module in a page. I cannot just make all the features of JA Tabs Extension work properly.
It needs a better tutorial for the JA Tabs Extension. If anyone has been successful in making the JA Tabs fully functional, kindly share your findings and experience.
In the meantime, I found other ways of doing this, using other existing modules, but I have yet to understand fully its impact on the page upload speed before sharing.

I don’t think to made a “crosslinking” of the SAME ARTICLE in differnet “sections” and “categories”
I want a module that collect ALL THE DIFFERENT ARTICLES coming from similar CATEGORIES in differente SECTIONS…
example:
the category “what’s on tonight” into all different sections such as NYcity, Miami, etc…so I’ll have a module in home page showing all the news about “what’s on tonight” from different sections (cities in that case). If it’s possible to track a category (and so different category in different sections…), using the ID of a category AS quang268 said before….is that what are you talking about quang? thank you 😉

andrea</blockquote>andrea,
And, as I pointed out in my previous response, there are several modules in Joomlart that can do that — just specify the categories you want (using their category ID (CID) – taken from the original Category list, not from the magazine menu..
