Hello,
I’ve been trying to upload and install a template following the instructions provided at:
After I upload the entire unzipped quickstart file for the JA Community Plus template using Filezilla, I navigated using my browser to my domain: http://www.voterfarmersmarket.org and I got taken to: http://www.voterfarmersmarket.org/installation/index.php, where the message was that I had to remove my installation folder. What is different is that, I am not taken to Step 1 of the Joomla! 1.7.3 Installation, but to Step 7: “Finish”. Also, I can’t back up through the menu of steps to Step 1: Language.
What the tutorial says is: “Once the page opens it should look something like the image below.Select the language you want to use with your installation and press next.” This is not what is happening for me.
I tried to simply delete the installation folder using filezilla but when I did that, although I could now see my site, the ja_community_plus template could not be found in the template manager or in the extension manager.
Can you tell me what to do to complete this installation process properly?
Thank you,
Hank Edson

January 22, 2012 at 11:12 pm #434892Hi
The steps are
1) Unzip all the quickstart package on your pc.
2) You must be sure that you have previously created a mysql empty database.
3) Your web server root must be clean of any file
4) Upload all the quickstart folder in your server root like public-html using an ftp client like Filezilla
5) Point your browser to the folder you have uploaded the quickstart package so the installation process can be start.
6) When requested at step 6 of the installation process install the sample data
7) When requested at step 7 remove the installation folder
8) Enjoy your new Joomlart based siteJanuary 23, 2012 at 4:02 am #434907Hi,
Ok, I tried to follow your instructions, but got the same result. Now, someone on a different forum has explained something I did not understand from the 8-step description above. The quick start package is not just a template installation with sample data/clone of the display version; it is also an installation of Joomla. In trying to follow step 3 above, what I did was delete all the directories in my public_html directory. I may have neglected to delete a few files outside these subdirectories, but I believe I overwrote all such files with what was in the unzipped quickstarter package. What I did not do was uninstall joomla (to my knowledge) and I think this is why I got the same result. Before I purchased the community_plus template, I had already installed Joomla 1.7.3. Perhaps I needed to do something special to uninstall this so that when the quick start package went to work, it didn’t act as though the installation were basically already finished??
The person on the other forum said my “server” has to be completely empty. Is this synonymous with “server root.” I believe my server root is my public_html file. I can’t figure out how to verify this, but it is where joomla had installed it’s sample templates, etc.
So, I will look on Rochen, my hosting service, to see if there are instructions for uninstalling joomla, because I would like to start with the clone, and then try again. It would really be helpful, however, if you are able to provide some guidance about this based on what I have described. Was there something other than deleting all the files in my public_html file I needed to do in order to get rid of the version of Joomla I installed before I purchased the community_plus package? And if I manage to both delete all the files in my public_html file and uninstall Joomla, will I then end up at Step 1 of the installation process after uploading the unzipped quickstart package?
Thanks if you can help,
Hank

February 23, 2012 at 10:39 pm #439741Thanks, I worked out a solution. My WAMP environment was working fine. For some reason the phpMyAdmin link on the dashboard allowed me to setup a database, but the link in the WAMP menu at the bottom of my screen triggers the Forbidden message.
Thank you for your help.
Hank
