Today, I installed and started using T3 framework version 2.0.2, Joomla 3.2.1, and the BS3 blank template. I have a few questions about using these tools, which I hope are not stupid questions …

    1. Tutorial videos show 5 available responsive layouts: wide, normal, xtablet, tablet, and mobile. My version has 4 available responsive layouts: large, medium, small, extra small. Why the change? How do I know which layout applies to which device?
    2. I have been trying to change the Home-1 layout. I saved a copy as Home-1-clone, and was hoping that I would be able to add blocks from the user interface; however, I don’t seem to be able to add blocks or re-size positions within a block (except for the footer). Is this correct? Do I really have to make these types of changes in .php files?
    3. Is there documentation available that graphically illustrates location of positions within predefined blocks for the blank template? Or is there a demo for the blank template? It’s hard for me to visualize what these pages and blocks within them will look like.
    4. I attempted to use ThemeMagic to change TextColor, which was initially set to @gray-dark for the blank template. I made a copy of the Default theme, and used the color picker to change the color to green, verified that it looked good in Preview, then went back out to view my actual site. The color had changed to blue! When I returned to ThemeMagic, the setting for TextColor was changed from the my green setting to a code for blue. I played around with this for quite a while and never was able to get a color I selected. Can anyone explain this?

    Thanks,

    Hi Kim,

Wow, quite a lot of questions. I add some notes below each of your questions:

    1. The video was made when we release T3 1.x.x. Also, the template using in video is T3 Blank, not T3 BS3 Blank.
“large, medium, small, extra small” are mapped to Bootstrap 3 grid. You can check http://getbootstrap.com/css/#grid for more information.

    2. You can only modify the number of blocks in a spotlight. For other block, you can create option for they show/hide the block.
First, you need to create a spotlight in PHP code, then your user can modify the number of module position for that spotlight in the way he wish.

    3. You can download the quickstart package of T3Blank/T3 Bs3 Blank. We have create demo content for these.
The live demo can be found here: http://www.demo.t3-framework.org/joomla30

For positions, you can use tp=1 (you should enable this option in Template Manager option).

    4. I am not quite sure about this 4th issue. Did you save the theme after making change to textColor? Please PM me your FTP and admin credentials so I can check the issue on your site.

    Hope those information would help.

Thanks for your help, Wall Crasher.

Follow-up question about blank template: I have the T3 Blank template loaded, but you suggested downloading the quickstart package for T3 Bs3 Blank template. Are you suggesting I do this so that I can have access to the Joomla components driving the live demo site (http://www.demo.t3-framework.org/joomla30)?

Regarding the problems with modifying colors in ThemeMagic, I experimented a little more … Certain fields have text in black (so you can change settings) while other fields have text in gray (so you can’t change and save settings). Seems like users are restricted from making certain changes??? I’m not sure this makes sense to me; however, I decided to stick with the default settings and make specific changes within articles and other components, if necessary. Not as flexible, but the truth is I’m using the blank template to build my site while learning the tools. As soon as I’m done, I am migrating to a fancier template.

    Thanks again for your assistance.

    Hi Kim,

The quickstart package will contains both T3 Blank and T3 Bs3 Blank.
If you are using T3 Blank template and wish to use it, you can uninstall the T3 Bs3 Template from the quickstart package.

It is up to your decision. And T3 Bs3 Blank is new and may less compatible with 3rd extensions than T3 Blank.

For ThemeMagic, I am not entirely sure about the problem you mentioned.
You should be able to modify every field in ThemeMagic panel. The gray texts are default value.
You can only save the changes when you are viewing other theme but not default theme.
