    I have just updated a 1.6 site to Joomla 1.7.1 and have upgraded ALL the Components, Modules and Plug-ins. I am using JA Ores which has been modified quite a bit. The site is at http://DrCarney.com

    So far everything appears to be working just fine on the site. Nothing appears broken and the old template is still working. But, I need to update the template! Now I am entering into the area where I am not as comfortable and I do have some questions. This is where it gets scary for me. I have to get my template changes to not be lost when we do the template upgrades.

    Modified files:
    I am using the compare feature of JA extensions Manager and it shows me the side by side view of the code for the various files that I have changed. Example is mega.css (public_html/templates/ja_ores/core/themes/light-red/css/menu/mega.css) which I have as a modified file. I am assuming that this file has NOT changed except for the changes which I have made. This is not too difficult. I see that there are arrows on the sides and I wanted to move the changes from the left to the right using the arrows. But, I get a message that “copy to right is disabled”. So, my question is.
    1) How do I enable copy to right and copy to left?
    2) Is that a bad idea?
    3) Is there a better way for me to do this?

    CoNFLICTED Files:
    I believe that conflicted means that I have made changes to the file and the new version also has changes. So, I need to carefully go through them. Some of the changes are very simple for me like colors that I have changed. But others are scarier like the params.ini (public_html/templates/ja_ores/params.ini ) file. Where can I go to learn what these parameters mean?

    Current file (and possibly modified by me):
    devmode=”1″
    cache=”0″
    cache_exclude=””
    optimize_css=”1″
    optimize_js=”0″
    optimize_folder=””
    optimize_exclude=””
    pages_profile=”all=light-redn280, 453, 436, 437=defaultn”

    Original File
    devmode=”0″
    cache=”1″
    cache_exclude=””
    infomode=”1″
    optimize_css=”3″
    optimize_js=”3″
    optimize_folder=”t3-assets”
    optimize_exclude=””
    pages_profile=”all=redn280, 453, 436, 437=defaultn”

    I actually only have two other files that are in this CONFLICTED state but those three are where all the important site changes are probablyl located:

    public_html/templates/ja_ores/css/template.css

    and

    public_html/templates/ja_ores/core/themes/light-red/css/light-theme.css

    And, it is reallyl the template.css file that has me the most scared because the numbering of the lines does not even seem to be close to each other.

    where would you suggest that I go to learn how to best compare these files and know what to copy over?

    Thank you, Sean Carney

    I spent many hours today trying to update my site using the Joomlart Extension Manager and also using WinMerge on a bunch of files.. I thought I had it correct but what I did ALMOST worked. There were a few kinks that I did not know how to work out. I must have missed something. I had lost changes made to the space where I am displaying the slideshow and I also lost colors in the footer area. Not too bad. The site actually worked except for that. 🙂

    What I would like to do is hire somebody to teach me by doing this upgrade with me using skype or go to meeting or some other equivalent solution.

    Is there anybody in this forum that is willing to do that or is that something I am not supposed to ask here? I will probably post at Joomlancers but I want to make sure whoever I get is really good with JoomlArt templates. Also, I really hope to learn how I could have done my template changes more intelligently so that in the future when I create sites they will not be so complicated to update!

    My site currently is on Joomla 1.7.1 and the JoomlArt template I am using is JA Ores 1.0.0 Beta. I upgraded this site from Joomla 1.6.6 recently. The site is at http://DrCarney.com

    thank you for anybody who might want to message me about helping me to learn. I want to be able to do this!
