I had previously tried to install JA Erica separately, but had problems. So I deleted the installation of Joomla, reinstalled to the newest version of Joomla and then deleted JA Erica from the install/uninstall panel….
Now I am trying to start over and get the quick start installed but I get an error that says:
* There was an error uploading this file to the server.
The URL is http://www.thehealingheartcenter.org, Joomla is installed to the root directory.
Please help.

Did you try to upload the quickstart package via the admin of any existing Joomla System?
This does not work!
A quickstart is always including a new Joomla system that later looks exactly like the demo version.
You have to unzip the quickstart package and upload the files manually to a directory of your server..one that is connected to a domainname you want to use for the Joomla system you install!
Than you type http://www.yourdomain.com/installation/index.php and go over the installation of the Quickstart which includes all the template features, the demo content and the template itself embedded in a new Joomla version. The following is the same like installing Joomla alone.
1st step is to chose your language for the installation.
The following steps configure your MySQL Database, you have to connect DB to your Joomla and also includes the step to install the sample data. For JA templates you have to click on “install sample data” to have the system run and look like the demo version. When the button changes to “sample data installed” you hit next.
In the last step you must delete the folder /installation/ in your Joomla directory to proceed to the admin or the admin will not be displayed.
The password / user is usually admin/admin but sometimes the new password you had to provide is requested when logging in the first time, I wonder why, sometimes this way, sometimes the other way?
Hope it helps!
October 11, 2008 at 8:28 pm #274796Thanks for the informative reply, I think I did as you described…
was I supposed to install quickstart files to the root directory on the server or the JA Erica folder?
Something went wrong, because now I get this error when trying to login:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: stripos() in /home/content/h/e/a/healingheart1/html/libraries/joomla/environment/uri.php on line 675

To the error message shown:
I also had an error like this when I installed Joomla the first time, let me think for a moment…
In the meantime, some facts about how to use domains with hosting accounts and where to place the Joomla content or quickstart packages:
Based on how your host requires you to use the hosting package with a domain.
Option 1: You have 1 domain and like with GoDaddy.com you can only assign one domain to one hosting account. When your host requires you to place all files in a folder like http_docs or public_html than you have to place all files to this folder. There you should not create another folder inside this directory like public_html or http_docs and also should not upload the folder like ja_erica_qucikstart to the directory but only the content. This way all what is stored inside this qucikstart folder is open for access by the domain assigned to the hosting account and when calling the domainname with a browser the index files, the main file for the system will be accessed and the site will be displayed. So again, you have to upload all the files and folders inside the quickstart folder right into the directory on your server and not upload the folder in whole. When you upoad the folder directly it is like you upload a box with all the files and folders to the hosting account and the domain can’t access the content.
Now when you can route the domain assigned to the account to point into any folder you can also upload the complete folder and point the domain to automatically access all what is inside the folder.
2. Option
Your host allows you to have several domains on one hosting account.
This way, I do it this way all the time, you create a folder named “domain_name” in your hosting accounts root directory when you do not have to use a folder like public_html etc. or when you have to use a folder like that you create this folder inside the public_html folder as otherwise you would have problems for another Joomla for another domain you want to host on the same hosting account. Than you point the domain you use to access this particular folder as start or root directory for this domain only. This way the folder is becoming the new root directory for the domain also when the folder “domain_name” is really located inside the actual root directory of your hosting account or in public_html.
To this folder you upload all files and folder inside the quickstart folder and head on as usual.

October 11, 2008 at 9:39 pm #274806When you did go through all of the installation already and now wanted to access the admin via the button admin in the install panel of Joomla and this error message comes up…
Have you really only deleted the “installation” folder inside the directory or maybe more than that or less than that?
Because when you reached the step where in red text the message “You have to delete the folder installation”, shows up and did so correctly, the next step is always the admin login.
When now you already were there and at login, when logging in the message comes up and your installation of Joomla went good and clean, I do not know what else error it may be that you deleted more than only the “installation” folder or did not delete the installation folder.
I would suggest to go to http://www.joomla.org and to aks the question there, as this is not related to the JA Quickstart but to the Joomla installation and as you may know, the quickstarts are not only provided by JA and other clubs but also by Joomla itself but there you do not get the JA template preinstalled and all the demo content included already.
That does not mean to use the quickstart from there as it is not easy to bring all the JA template stuff to an existing Joomla, like mentioned above, but to only ask what you did wrong, so that, with the answer from there, you can do the same with the JA Quickstart again and avoid the error to have a clean and working install later! I did this often when I first had problems like that.
I think you will get the answer definitely in/at the forum of Joomla directly!!!
Much success!;)
October 12, 2008 at 1:46 am #274815Thank you again for sticking with me on this! I was able to get JA Erica working with all the demo extensions. I ended up deleting my files through ftp, then reinstalled joomla 1.5.7 and manually installed the quickstart files.
Then went through the installation procedure like you talked about….I knew when I asked me to select my language choice I had it right.
So it looks and works great now.
Thanks for your time!
