I just downloaded the latest version (today) of the Appolio template and created a dev site. It comes with a bunch of extensions of course but the quickstart had old versions of several of them.

The built in Joomla updater does not work to update the JA extensions/templates.

If I use the JA Extension manager I get an error similar to this thread:
    http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/keep-getting-error-when-updating-extensions-and-extensions-manager-doesnt-work/

The downloaded template package did have newer versions of extensions individually that I was able to update, but did not in fact have the latest version of the masshead module. It was v2.5.9 instead of v2.6.0 which is the latest…therefore, it kept telling me that i needed to update it.

When I tried to obtain the latest version of this module of course I can’t update it via Joomla update. I also couldn’t update it via the JA extension manager. When I tried to manually download it form the JA site I get a message that I don’t have sufficient rights to get it because I have a template membership not an extension membership.

So…….how would someone get the latest version of an included extension if the template package doesn’t have the latest version available at the time of download? I was able to get around this because the July template has the latest version of the masshead module, but that can’t be the standard process for this….is it?

    Thanks!

Thank you for the alert . . . . I will forward this issue onto the JA Development Team to review and update as needed.

Thank you for that, but updating this particular package doesn’t solve the ongoing issue of not being able to use the Joomla updater to simply “get” the updates as needed nor why the JA updater doesn’t work. Are they going to address that or just put a single, newer file in the download package?

I don’t know if perhaps it is domain based….meaning that since this isn’t my “registered” URL is it preventing me from using the updater? It is a dev site. There is nothing I can do about that until it is in production….if it ever is. It’s a dev site because I’m trying to figure out if it will work for my needs.

    Thanks for the quick reply!

    Hi,

There’s only 1 Quickstart package for each template. As you can see that we update templates / modules / plugins frequently, so it’s not a good idea to create a new Quickstart package each time we update our products.

Back to your second question, you can download JA Masshead module 2.6.0 in JA Medicare download page. The easiest to update your module / plugin / template is via JA Extension Manager. Just download the latest package, choose to update from local, upload new package and you’re done.
