Hi, Just wanted to mention that there are many very good books on Joomla that explain these things in detail. It may be a good idea to do some research first before you start building your website, so that you are more comfortable with what you are doing.I’d suggest you take a look at this website and read up on some of their exelent tutorials. I’m sure that would help.

Good luck!!
By the way, spmedia, I admire your patience. Great explanations. I was not writing this to suggest your comments are not good. They’re great. Just that there seems to be a lack of the basics to start setting up a site.

February 16, 2009 at 12:32 pm #291758So at the moment, i am uploading the quickstart package to the ftp at the moment applying the same measures i discussed earlier to uploading the joomla zip……
I will let you know if this enables me to install the quickstart ……
If so thanks too everyone concerned … it has been a long time coming.
———————————-
Could someone explain the meaning of what this person wrote on page 2…..
thanks to the person concerned btw…It looks like you are getting some good help here from SPMEDIA – but two things I didn’t see in the thread (maybe I missed it). Once you have everything uploaded and you’ve removed the installation folder, you have to go back in and 1) create a “resized” folder under your httpdocs/images directory AND grant the “resized” folder 777 permissions. Only then will everything appear correctly.

February 18, 2009 at 2:02 pm #292368Ok great i found the answer in
http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/latest-and-best-smartphone-in-2015/#post-292364
I had a few issues with creating the database.
the two main issues after i had gone to cpanel and created a database there.
I had issues realising that the username and and database name needed to include the prefex the database had added on…. ex ruler was changed to (ex)name_ruler and i hadto add them both including the _ of the name.
The second main issue was that host name i was using was my url…..
that was wrong in my case i hadto use localhost – as the host name.In my case it then worked now on stage 5.

February 19, 2009 at 10:09 am #292518With Thanks to all the people that helped me install the quickstart here is how i managed to do it, with their help
I have rearanged the order in which I did these things but I presume this would be the easiest way.
Before doing any of this confer with a professional – i am an amateur and learnt everything recently.
Ok so here is the complete rundown of what i did to install the quickstart package..
In my case for the Ja Teline 11 template, but i presume this method would work for any quickstart installation.
Btw just to let you know the quickstart zip also has a complete (I presume) version of Joomla so when you install the quickstart you also install joomla.First………………Database………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
I was told I had to create a database for the site, I used cpanel which I had with my website to do this. There was a area called MySQL Databases – I created the database there.
To do this, First under New database I entered the name of the database, which then became prefixed by another name. Example if I wrote orangetoast as the database name it might then became example : red_orangetoast.
P.s it is important to add the prefix as well as the _and name you created when adding the info in step 4.Secondly once this was created I then – created the username and password and wrote create user. Once this was created then – added the user to the database.
I now had a database for my new installation, I kept all this information writen down. This was to be inputed into the areas when asked in step four of the installation.
Next ……………..Download Template………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
I downloaded and opened the downloaded Template zip, and located the quickstart zip inside it.
I then extracted the ( quickstart zip ) contents into a folder on my computer ( the name of the folder was unimportant ).
……………………..Download Filezilla ( or another ftp software )…………………………………………………………………………………………..
The folder then had to be uploaded into the public_html area of my site, which I accessed via ftp ( in my case with a ftp client software called filezilla.) I downloaded filezilla – ( Filezilla is an ftp software which has a free of charge version which enables you to upload files to your ftp from your computer) There are other ftp softwares but for this installation i used filezilla. I imagine you can apply the same stages to other softwares.
To use filezilla I had to have ftp settings to connect to my host, I found my ftp settings in cpanels ftp accounts next to the logo called main.. to the right of it called configure ftp client and found the settings there — in my case I imagine there are other ways of finding the ftp settings.
I then entered these setting into the corresponding boxes at the top of filezilla, and then used these settings to connect to the ftp server through filezilla.
I entered the host, example: coolinternetsite.com ( btw I found that not adding ftp. Before allowed it to work ).
Then i added The username and password : again find these in the ftp settings wherever you have them password + port etc…. if you have trouble with these – or any issue contact your hosting people or ask in these forums.…………………………..Extract Quickstart into a folder. and upload………………………………………………………………………………
Anyway once I had connected to my ftp site, I procedded to locate the folder containing the quickstart files I had extracted and selected all the files within that folder and dragged them into the public_html folder within the remote ftp site ( I don’t know what its called) basically not local.
I hadto wait for quite a while in my case for the files to completely upload, once they had uploaded I moved on to the next part
………………………………………………..Install Quickstart from the url………………………………………………………………………………
I next typed in the url of the site I was uploading to, I was really glad here because it worked!
And found the installation screen I can’t say much about this part because I was so happy to get this far I just clicked next for the first 3 screens.
The first is the language part I gather. The second things that are working or not – persons have added that if you find any red words the yes and no you may want to configure them.
The Third part is terms and conditions or something of the sort I gather if you agree go ahead.
The fourth Step was tricky for me it was the database configuration. Two issues that were stopping me from proceeding were the fact that I was not adding the prefix for names I had created ( the MySQL Database added an extra name and underline which I needed to input.
Important point )The second issue was that in the hostname part I was adding myurl example greenoranges.com what I needed to do was write localhost in my case. Then I could proceed.
The fifth part I just clicked next ….. if you need more info check around sorry.
The sixth part I was asked If I wanted to install sample data….. This was very important for my purpose
I
nstalling Ja Teline 11’s qucikstart zip was important for me because it enabled me to have the preset website which can be seen when looking at the ja teline 11 demo . In order to have the demo content on my website I was told to install the quickstart of teline to get this. The most important part here for me then was to install the sample data which I did. I pressed the button titled install sample data which it did also successfully. I made sure the box next to it was also ticked then proceeded to the next part.
Phhhhhhhheeeeeeewww.
………………………………………………..Delete installation folder, continue to updated site…………………………………………………………….
Now the last part.. at first I didn’t understand this… but here it is.
I was then informed I hadto remove the installation folder.. Wt the hells that I thought.Well I went back into the public_html folder and found the folder called installation and deleted it and waited a bit for it to completed go and…. viola!!!
And then went the url or my site and there it was installed. -
