October 2, 2013 at 5:19 pm #191112Hi there,
I uploaded the unzipped quickstart template files in my host folder and then I typed the site url. I am prompted to an error message instead of the installation page:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘=’, expecting ‘(‘ in /homez.744/XXXXX/www/includes/framework.php on line 42
– XXXXX replaces my username in the ftp
– www is the folder where I uploaded the filesHad anyone come across this error message before? I am new to this world and I would not be surprised if it is a typical newbie question… I have made few researches already but cannot find anything really. Hope it helps others too.
Thanks
Regards

October 3, 2013 at 6:47 am #507881Hi Simon,
You can check out your serve to make sure that it satisfy the technical requirements of Joomla installation at http://www.joomla.org/about-joomla/technical-requirements.html
In addition, i suggest you to install the quickstart on localhost firstly, move the installed files and database to remote server then. That is a potential solution in case some servers don’t support to install Joomla directly on. You can refer this tutorial to know how to move website to remote server at http://www.ostraining.com/blog/joomla/how-to-move-a-jomla-site-from-local-to-live-server/

October 18, 2013 at 4:42 pm #509518Thank you Leo, sorry for coming bacl so late I have made many attempts.
The server offers to install joomla 2.5 so I assume the requirements are met.
I installed on localhost and then I managed to go to point 9 on the second link you provided me. It does not work then. I decided to give it a go with the manual upload changing the configuration.php file.
I updated it but now I have a page that says it works – it is the index.html file that is the source file. Should I change it or change htaccess.txt to .htaccess and edit the file?
Thanks in advance
Hope you or someone can help.Regards

October 21, 2013 at 1:13 am #509612Hi Simon,
In my experience, i just rename htaccess.txt to .htaccess file when i want to configure the SEFs settings or access permissions on internal links (component, plugin, module …) and IPs of regions, person i want to ban. In case, if you don’t need to do above reasons, you should not change htaccess.txt .

January 13, 2014 at 5:12 pm #518297Thanks Leo for your help.
I changed hosting company and now it works with the new one. OVH was not helpful. It runs well with hostpapa. And I could also use the joomla 3 version (OVH left me run only the 2.5).
Thanks a lot.
